The Field Materials Specialist is responsible for coordinating the procurement, delivery, tracking, inspection, and quality assurance of construction materials across multiple projects. This role works closely with the Design Team, Materials Manager, Project Managers, Superintendents, and Field Leads to ensure that all materials arrive on time, meet project specifications, and support efficient project execution.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining strong communication with vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams.

Key ResponsibilitiesMaterial Procurement & Coordination

  • Coordinate with Designers, Project Managers, and the Materials Manager to understand upcoming material requirements.
  • Review project plans, specifications, RFIs, and approved submittals to verify material needs.
  • Assist in creating and maintaining project material schedules.
  • Coordinate deliveries to ensure materials arrive according to project schedules and milestones.
  • Communicate with vendors and suppliers regarding lead times, delivery dates, shortages, and substitutions.

Delivery Tracking & Logistics

  • Track all material orders from purchase through final delivery.
  • Maintain accurate records of purchase orders, delivery tickets, packing slips, and inventory logs.
  • Monitor lead times and proactively identify potential delays.
  • Coordinate delivery sequencing to minimize site congestion and maximize installation efficiency.
  • Ensure materials are properly staged and protected upon arrival.

Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC)

  • Perform inspections of incoming materials to verify compliance with approved plans, specifications, and purchase orders.
  • Identify damaged, defective, incorrect, or incomplete shipments.
  • Document and report material discrepancies immediately.
  • Coordinate replacement or corrective actions with vendors and suppliers.
  • Maintain QA/QC records and documentation for project files.

Field Verification & Inventory Management

  • Conduct routine site visits to verify material quantities and installation readiness.
  • Track material usage and identify potential shortages before they impact production.
  • Assist with inventory management of company-owned materials and equipment.
  • Monitor waste and provide recommendations for improved material utilization.

Team Coordination

  • Collaborate with:
  • Designers regarding plan revisions and material selections.
  • Materials Manager regarding purchasing and supplier performance.
  • Project Managers regarding project schedules and material forecasting.
  • Field Leads and Superintendents regarding delivery timing and installation requirements.
  • Participate in weekly project planning meetings.
  • Provide material status updates and delivery forecasts.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate material tracking reports for all active projects.
  • Document delivery dates, inspections, shortages, and corrective actions.
  • Update project management software and daily logs with material status information.
  • Assist in developing procurement and material management procedures.

QualificationsRequired

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2 years of experience in construction, logistics, material management, purchasing, or a related field.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to read construction drawings and specifications.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and construction management software.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Preferred

  • Experience in residential and commercial construction.
  • Knowledge of construction materials, equipment, and installation practices.
  • Experience with Buildertrend, Procore, or similar project management platforms.
  • Forklift certification or willingness to obtain certification.

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
