Position Overview
The Entry-Level Commercial Estimator will support the preconstruction and project management teams by assisting with quantity takeoffs, subcontractor coordination, bid preparation, document review, and cost tracking. This role is ideal for someone looking to build a career in commercial construction management, estimating, or project engineering.
The successful candidate should be organized, detail-oriented, comfortable working with construction drawings, and eager to learn estimating software, project scheduling, and construction operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with quantity takeoffs from construction drawings and specifications
- Help prepare conceptual budgets, bid packages, and project estimates
- Review plans, specifications, and addenda for bidding opportunities
- Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to gather pricing
- Organize bid documents and maintain estimating files
- Track and compare subcontractor proposals
- Assist with scope reviews and value engineering opportunities
- Support project managers during project turnover and startup
- Participate in site visits and pre-bid walkthroughs as needed
- Learn estimating software, project management platforms, and construction workflows
- Assist with procurement and material tracking
- Maintain professional communication with clients, vendors, and team members
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree, trade school education, or coursework in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred
- Basic understanding of construction methods and terminology
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings is preferred but not required
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and general computer software
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks
- Self-motivated with strong attention to detail
