Overview of the Position:

The primary role of full-time faculty is to fulfill the mission of the University to provide an excellent educational experience for students that results in rigorous learning outcomes within a caring, inclusive teaching/learning environment. As professional educators, full-time faculty are expected to devote the time necessary to meet the goals of the curriculum, the objectives of their courses, and the educational needs of their students.

Core Responsibilities:

*** Full-time undergraduate faculty are paid based on a 40-hour work week and are evaluated on the five core responsibilities outlined below.

Instruction:

· Design and implement effective teaching/learning experiences

· Teach assigned classes in accordance with current course syllabi, at the course-load level required by the school.

· Manage the learning environment and engage students

· Identify students who would benefit from additional academic support, challenge, and/or enrichment.

· Modify teaching techniques and improve results in accordance with assessment and feedback.

· Modify curriculum and/or teaching style based on assessment results and professional development experiences. Document modifications based on assessment results

· Review and update course syllabi and instructional resources in cooperation with the School Dean and/or Program Director.

· Maintain an appropriate office hours schedule as required by the school and to allow for sufficient student access and engagement.

Maintain a schedule of office hours as dictated by University, School and Departmental requirements. Include the schedule of office hours in the Course Syllabus and Blackboard site.

Instructional Preparation, Learning Assessment, and Administrative Tasks:

Prepare an appropriate plan for each course session and educational activity

Customize the course syllabus using the template provided by the School or Department

Provide each student with the following at the start of each course:

Goals and objectives/content for the course of study

  • Information regarding required instructional materials
  • Course attendance requirements
  • Schedule of examinations, assignments, papers, projects, field trips, and other special activities
  • Out-of-class assignment policies and practices
  • Late submission policies and practice
  • Methods of evaluating student progress and performance in achieving course goals and learning objectives, including the method by which the final grade is derived
  • Information about office hours, consultation/appointment availability and procedures
  • Any other information that informs students of requirements established by the instructor for meeting course objectives
  • Educate students about, and hold them accountable for conforming to, the Monroe University Code of Academic and Scholarly integrity.
  • Set up and maintain Blackboard content and gradebook aligned with University, School, and Department policies and consistent with the course syllabus.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Meet each class at the scheduled time and place
  • Attend Industry Advisory Board meetings held by the School or Department
  • Participate in professional development activities, both internal and external, related to teaching/learning and the appropriate professional field(s).
  • Serve on committees and task forces as requested or needed
  • Work with the Dean or Program Director in the development of course materials, printed information, web content, collateral materials.
  • Remain current in the discipline and updating course content when appropriate to reflect the current levels of knowledge in the discipline
  • Develop, implement, and review at least annually, an effective learning process incorporating appropriate methodology, technology, and other tools.
  • Develop a system for ongoing evaluation of both teaching and learning, including course competencies and expectations and student outcome measures
  • Work in partnership with the Dean or Program Director through a formal system of evaluation of instruction to identify strengths and weaknesses in the instructional process and to identify professional development activities that will lead to effective student learning.

Student Advisement, Mentoring, and Support

  • Maintain a schedule of office hours as dictated by University, School and Departmental requirements. Include the schedule of office hours in the Course Syllabus and Blackboard site.
  • Periodically review the progress of each student and inform each student of his/her progress toward achieving course objectives.
  • Develop and implement action plans for students who need direction and academic support
  • Develop and implement enrichment experiences for students who are seeking a challenge and demonstrating high levels of performance
  • Participate in orientation, advisement, and registration as requested
  • Assist students in integrating their academic pursuits with their career interests
  • Connect students to campus resources and support services, including student services, tutoring, library, career services, health and wellness services, and financial services.

Campus and Community Engagement

  • Participate in University, School and Department retreats, meetings, and academic programs
  • Represent the University, School and Department to outside agencies, employers, and partners
  • Attend Admissions Open Houses, academic ceremonies, co-curricular activities, student club events, etc.

· Ability to apply appropriate and effective classroom management techniques

· Ability to utilize standard academic technologies that support teaching/learning

· Teamwork and collegiality across departments in various work groups, task forces, committees, and other types of teams to accomplish goals

· Productivity and effectiveness in carrying out the position’s core responsibilities and assignments and projects delegated by the supervisor

· Ability to plan, execute, assess, and improve course outcomes

· Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and public speaking skills

Qualifications:

· Graduate degree appropriate to the teaching discipline and assigned courses

· Appropriate certifications, licensures, and other credentials, as required by the School and Department

· Teaching experience and demonstrated positive outcomes at the University level

Workplace Designation:

In-person – generally four days per week in a combination of onsite, virtual, asynchronous online, and/or clinical hours.

· Opening of Semester Meeting

· Holiday Party (December)

· Academic Awards Ceremonies

· Departmental Meetings

· Other meetings deemed necessary by the supervisor

· Commencement (June)

· School of Nursing Pinning Ceremony

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
