Position Summary

The Head Coach is responsible for leading all aspects of an NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics program within the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). This includes student-athlete development, compliance, recruiting, academic success, community engagement, and program administration, while supporting the Division II philosophy of balance among athletics, academics, and service.

Primary Responsibilities

Leadership & Student-Athlete Development

• Provide leadership, mentorship, and instruction to support the academic, athletic, and personal development of student-athletes.
• Foster an environment aligned with NCAA Division II and CACC values emphasizing balance, integrity, and overall student experience.
• Promote sportsmanship, professionalism, and ethical conduct

Program Management & Operations

• Oversee all aspects of daily team operations and long-term program development.
• Design and implement practice plans and competitive strategies.
• Organize and direct training, travel, and competition.
• Promote program growth, visibility, and competitive success within the CACC and NCAA Division II landscape.

Recruiting (NCAA Division II & CACC Compliance)

• Develop and implement a comprehensive recruiting plan in accordance with NCAA Division II and CACC bylaws.
• Identify, evaluate, and recruit prospective student-athletes.
• Assign recruiting territories and supervise assistant coaches.
• Ensure all recruiting activities adhere to NCAA, CACC, and institutional rules.

Community Engagement & CACC Alignment

• Promote active engagement with the campus and local community, consistent with NCAA Division II and CACC emphasis on service.
• Organize and participate in community service initiatives and outreach programs.
• Encourage student-athlete involvement in service learning, campus activities, and leadership opportunities.
• Represent the program at community, alumni, and institutional events.
• Strengthen relationships with local organizations, youth programs, and high school programs to enhance program visibility and community impact.

Representation & Professional Conduct

• Serve as an ambassador for Monroe University Athletics and the CACC.
• Represent the institution professionally at competitions and events.
• Promote sportsmanship among participants, opponents, and spectators.
• Demonstrate integrity, leadership, and a strong work ethic.

Personnel & Administrative Duties

• Identify and recommend candidates for assistant coaching positions.
• Conduct performance evaluations of coaching staff.
• Maintain effective communication with administration, faculty, staff, student-athletes, and families

Additional Expectations

• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and travel.
• Participate in institutional events and professional development.
• Support and promote the mission of Monroe University, NCAA Division II, and the CACC.

Reporting Structure

• Reports directly to the Director of Athletics on all operational, academic, compliance, and student welfare matters.
• Recruit student-athletes who align with institutional academic standards and mission.

Coaching Staff Oversight

• Hire (in collaboration with administration), supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches and staff.
• Delegate responsibilities to ensure a positive, well-rounded student-athlete experience.
• Provide leadership and direction during practices and competition.

Academic Oversight & Student Support

• Monitor academic progress to ensure compliance with NCAA Division II eligibility and progress-toward-degree requirements.
• Collaborate with academic support services to promote retention and graduation.
• Counsel student-athletes in academic, personal, and disciplinary matters.

Compliance & Governance

• Ensure full compliance with NCAA Division II rules, CACC regulations, and institutional policies.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of NCAA and conference bylaws.
• Work closely with compliance staff to oversee eligibility, recruiting, financial aid, and playing/practice seasons.

Scheduling & Competition

• Develop competitive schedules consistent with NCAA Division II and CACC requirements.
• Coordinate team travel and logistics efficiently and within compliance guidelines.

Budget & Resource Management

• Prepare and manage the program’s operating budget in coordination with the Athletic Director.
• Administer athletic scholarship allocations consistent with NCAA Division II partial scholarship rules.
• Monitor expenditures, equipment inventory, and fiscal accountability.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree preferred).
• Valid driver’s license.
• Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA Division II rules and CACC policies.
• Commitment to the NCAA Division II philosophy of academics, athletics, and community engagement.

Pay: $20,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
