Position Title: Special Education Teacher – Structured Learning Center (SLC)

Life Skills – Structured Learning Center (SCL):

The SLC programs serve students in grades one through twelve. Students have moderate to severe physical, learning and/or behavioral disabilities. Specially designed instruction may be delivered in special education or general education classroom, depending on the student’s needs, in the areas of functional academics, daily living skills, vocational, and social-emotional. Lifting, feeding, toileting, and physical restraining may be necessary. In addition to direct teaching responsibilities, the special education teacher develops and supervises the specially designed instruction and is responsible for scheduling and direction paraeducator in the performance of their duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must possess a valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with endorsement in special education.
• Successful and recent experience teaching special education students in the school setting [referred.
• Desire to work with special education students ranging from those who are medically fragile, and in a self-contained setting to students primarily in general education settings with special education support.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff.
• Ability to work with minimum direction, but as an effective member of the team.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and IEP compliance paperwork.
• Demonstrate positive interactions with special education students, their families and other team members.
• Demonstrate interest, commitment and ability to work with students ages 3-21 who have varied special education needs and help them succeed both academically and socially.
• Such other qualifications as the Board and Superintendent may find appropriate.
• Demonstrate ability to honor confidentiality and appropriately apply the requirement of the Family Education Rights to Privacy Act (FERPA).
