Position Title: Young Adult Services Coordinator
Department: Children’s and Young Adult Services
Reports to: Department Head
Position Definition: A member of the Children/YA Services team, the YA coordinator facilitates programming and other activities in the dept. focused on teens and tweens (ages 12-18).
Compensation & Hours: $17.00 per hour for 20 hours a week. Afternoon to early evening hours and two Saturday shifts per month.
Position Duties:
- Plan, develop, and facilitate programming for teens and tweens (ages 12-18). This includes continuing established programs as well as developing new programs with the department head or other team members.
- Manage Teen Volunteer Program- includes training teens, overseeing their work and tracking their volunteer hours.
- Keeps the YA and Tween collections and spaces are neat and ready for use.
- Develop LibGuides that support services, collections and events.
- Has working familiarity (or willingness to learn) of YA and Children’s literature and popular reading materials.
- Willingness to learn new computer programs to benefit dept.
- Make suggestions for purchase for YA / Tween collection.
- Works with team to create a summer reading program for all ages.
- Plan and facilitate outreach to local schools.
- Prepare monthly reports to Department Head to share monthly statistics.
- Attend training sessions and staff meetings as required.
- Works with team to create themes and decoration and long-range program planning.
- Oversees and works with the Teen Advisory Board.
- Staffs Children's desk to help patrons with readers' advisory and reference.
Other Duties
- Willing to be cross trained to work on the circulation desk.
- May serve on MFL internal committees.
- May represent the library at RCLS meetings for YA Services.
- May be called upon to represent the library at public meetings or school / community events.
Qualifications
- Must enjoy working with children of all ages, especially teens and tweens.
- Possess an energetic and outgoing personality.
- Must be computer literate.
- Ability to work independently and work well within a small team.
- Possess well developed interpersonal and communication skills including- tact, diplomacy, and flexibility.
- Ability to adjust hours as needed for special events programming.
Physical: Must be able to lift a minimum of 30lbs, stand for at least 1 hour, have a driver’s license and vehicle.
Education and Experience:
Preferred: 2-year college degree from an accredited college or university plus 1-2 years' experience with children/young adults in a library or school setting. Required: Required- HS Diploma and experience with children/young adults in a library or school setting.
