Position Title: Environmental Health Specialist-Foods

Position Summary: This position is responsible for inspecting retail food establishments and seasonal/temporary events. Other responsibilities include performing plan reviews for potential new facilities, responding to complaints, and investigating complaints, including foodborne illnesses. Advises, educates, and instructs proprietors in rules, regulations, and proper procedures and practices concerning food sanitation to ensure compliance with regulations. Conducts follow up investigations as individual cases require and takes action as appropriate. Completes cross training to assist in other areas of environmental health. The ideal candidate works well in a team based environment, and has knowledge of federal, state, and local food codes. A typical day may include 1-2 hours of office time including consultations, filing and data entry plus 5-6 hours spent conducting inspections of retail food establishments. Required to serve as an emergency responder for public health events.

Qualifications: Baccalaureate Degree in environmental science or related field. Experience preferred. Must have valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurance.

Starting Salary: $47,302 with full government benefits. Standard work hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00-4:00pm with 1-hr lunch Alternative work times to serve public needs will vary, but may include evenings and weekends
