Function of Position
The Part-Time Teaching Assistant will support faculty to enhance student learning in the Optical Systems Technology Program. Classes may be assigned at the Brighton and/or Downtown Campus (or other sites, as appropriate). Teaching Assistants report to the Program Director of the Optical Systems Technology Program. The successful candidate will bring a passion for student learning and a desire to support and mentor MCC students as they pursue educational and career goals.

Additional Information
Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity and college budget. This position has a range of $25 to $35 per hour and is based on these mentioned factors.
Schedule: Up to 10 hours per week, per course (not to exceed 20 hours)
Term: 9/1/2025-8/31/2026
Working Conditions: Typical office environment with frequent travel to regional schools and companies.

In limited circumstances, prompted by business or operational needs, the College may approve requests to work remotely outside of New York State, on a short term, temporary basis.

- This is a temporary, grant funded position that may be renewed annually contingent upon availability of grant funding and performance reviews.
- Demonstrates and maintains current subject knowledge.
- Support faculty and students in courses within Optical Systems Technology Program.
- Assist faculty with lab set up, management, and reorganization.
- Provide 1:1 support to students to enhance student engagement and learning.
- Demonstrates excellent time management skills, the ability to prioritize workflow, and multi-task.
- Up to 10-hours per week per course (not to exceed 20-hours).
- Performs other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Program Director, as appropriate.

Required Qualifications
- Familiarity with one or more of the following course topics: Conventional Optical Fabrication, CNC Optical Fabrication, Optical Systems, Geometrical Optics, Optical Instruments and Analysis, Wave Optics, Lasers, Photonics
- Evidence of effective communication (interpersonal, speaking, and writing) skills
- Commitment to supporting an inclusive environment on campus
- Evidence of respect for and understanding of people with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs
- Earned Associate's degree from a regionally accredited higher education institution in Optical Systems Technology or equivalent OR has three or more years experience in the field
- Experience in fostering academic success among underserved, diverse student populations and clients of the College
- Experience with Interferometers and Metrology equipment
- Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish or other languages proficiently
