The Monomoy Regional School District is seeking a Preschool Teacher, meeting the specific needs of those learning English as a second language. PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Pups Prekindergarten Teacher provides a nurturing and stimulating learning environment for all children, with the ability to meet the specific needs of those learning English as a second language. Our program is a full, school-day program also designed to support all families in our community, particularly those experiencing housing insecurities, low income, and/or challenges with transportation and access to high-quality prekindergarten programming. RECOMMENDED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field (preferred)Massachusetts Teaching Certification in Early Childhood Education (or willingness to obtain)Sheltered English Immersion (SEI) Endorsement requiredExperience working with prekindergarten-aged children, including English LearnersKnowledge of early childhood development and best practices in early childhood educationUnderstanding of second language acquisition principles and strategiesStrong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skillsAbility to work effectively as part of a teamPatience, flexibility, and a positive attitudeFluency in a second language is a plusExperience with assessments designed for English Learners is a plusExperience working with community resources and acting as a liaison is a plusSUPERVISION: Reports to: Director of Student ServicesESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed.

The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.Curriculum Implementation: Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans aligned with state early learning standards and incorporating best practices for supporting English Learners (ELs)Create engaging and interactive activities that promote cognitive, social-emotional, physical, and language developmentAdapt curriculum and teaching strategies to meet the individual needs of all children, including English Learners with varying levels of English proficiencyUtilize a variety of teaching methods, including play-based learning, small-group instruction, and whole-group activitiesOversee and provide direction to the instructional assistantLanguage Development: Provide explicit instruction in English vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation.Create a language-rich environment that encourages communication and interactionImplement strategies to support English Learners language acquisition, such as visual aids, gestures, repetition, and simplified languageIntegrate culturally relevant materials and activities into the curriculumUse assessments to monitor English Learners language progress and adjust instruction accordinglyClassroom Management: Establish and maintain a positive and supportive classroom environment.Implement effective classroom management strategies to promote positive behavior and engagementCreate a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment where all children feel valued and respectedAssessment and Documentation: Conduct ongoing assessments of children's development and learningMaintain accurate and detailed records of children's progress, including observations, assessments, and work samplesCommunicate regularly with parents/guardians about their child's progress, including specific information concerning the English language learning processCollaboration and Communication: Collaborate with other teachers, support staff, and administrators to ensure a cohesive and supportive learning environmentCommunicate effectively with parents/guardians from diverse cultural and linguistic backgroundsParticipate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in early childhood education and English Learner instructionWork with any community-based providers supporting the child and the familyCultural Sensitivity: Demonstrate sensitivity to the cultural and linguistic backgrounds of all children and familiesCreate a classroom environment that celebrates diversity and promotes inclusionFamily Support Focus and Community Liaison: Work collaboratively with families to ensure their children's success in the programAct as a liaison with community preschool and daycare centers to share responsibilities in finding program placements that fit families needsCollaborate with community partners, including the Monomoy Early Childhood Council, WIC, Housing Authorities, and others, to support and connect families to wraparound resources as neededProfessionalism: Adhere to school and district policies and proceduresEngage in all events outlined in the current MREA contractMaintain professional ethics and confidentialityDemonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and professional growthMaintain accurate attendance and grade recordsMaintain a valid Massachusetts teaching licenseParticipate in professional development opportunities to enhance related skills and knowledge to remain current in the fieldTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: MREA Collective Bargaining Agreement, Unit AEVALUATION: MREA Collective Bargaining Agreement, Unit A WAGES AND BENEFITS: MREA Collective Bargaining Agreement, Unit A
