My client, a leading quantitative hedge fund, is seeking a Network Engineer to join their growing Systems Infrastructure Team in New York City.
The successful candidate will take ownership of leading network engineering initiatives across the firm, working hands-on with network design, implementation, and operations. This will include managing counterparty integrations, supporting new office buildouts, expanding cloud networking capabilities within AWS, and driving ongoing network optimization across the firm's global operations. You'll also be responsible for maintaining and evolving the firm's routing, switching, and firewall infrastructure while developing automation and scripting solutions to improve operational efficiency.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in network and network security engineering, with deep knowledge of routing, switching, firewall systems, and cloud networking architectures. Experience with AWS and proficiency in scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell is essential. Candidates who can demonstrate examples of designing network infrastructure improvements, implementing security controls, optimizing cloud networking environments, or introducing network automation and monitoring will be particularly well suited.
Importantly, this role goes beyond reactive network maintenance. My client is looking for someone who can bring ideas to the table around improving network architecture, identifying gaps in existing infrastructure, and helping enhance overall resilience, security and performance. The successful candidate will be technically curious, proactive, and comfortable troubleshooting complex issues independently while collaborating closely with security, infrastructure and wider technology teams.
Key Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- 10 years of experience in a network and/or network security role
- Strong expertise in traditional networking - routing, switching, and firewall systems
- Proficiency in scripting and/or programming (Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar)
- Familiarity with public cloud environments, particularly AWS
- Ideally experience with Palo Alto environments
