Job Description:
The client is seeking a Project Engineer focused on electrical simulation and validation of synchronous alternators used in generator systems for standby power applications.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Perform transient and steady-state simulation analysis of generator and alternator systems
- Develop and refine simulation models using tools such as Simulink, SKM, and electromagnetic FEA tools
- Conduct root cause failure analysis on alternator test and performance issues
- Support validation of first article production machines and system testing
- Optimize power systems for performance, cost, and reliability
- Develop alternator diagnostic algorithms and modeling best practices
- Collaborate with internal engineering teams and external stakeholders on power system challenges
- Support education and knowledge sharing on power systems fundamentals
Requirements:
Must-Haves:- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (ABET accredited; Master's strongly preferred)
- Strong interest in or experience with electrical machines and magnetics (alternators, motors)
- Experience with simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink and/or Ansys Maxwell or Altair Flux
- Understanding of power systems behavior and electrical machine fundamentals
- Experience or exposure to root cause failure analysis
- Ability to work with or learn alternator/motor systems and performance modeling
- 3 years of experience preferred (open to strong new grads with relevant background)
- Experience with electric machine testing
- Coursework in electric machines or power systems
- Familiarity with d-q (qd0) modeling or symmetrical components
- Experience with islanded or parallel power systems
- Exposure to electromagnetic finite element analysis tools
- Industry experience in automotive, industrial motors, or academia (MS/PhD candidates valued)
