Family Violence Prevention Specialist

Position Summary

The Family Violence Prevention Specialist (FVPS) serves as a bridge between survivors, families, and systems, providing crisis intervention, advocacy, and direct support to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and sex trafficking throughout the Monadnock region. In collaboration with the New Hampshire Division for Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF), the FVPS helps ensure that when both domestic violence and child abuse are reported, the response is coordinated, trauma-informed, and grounded in survivor and child safety.

The FVPS works half time from MCVP’s Keene office and half time from the DCYF Keene District Office with the Child Protection Services Unit to collaborate with both teams strengthening communication and system response. This position requires a grounded, thoughtful professional who can navigate complexity, build trust, and hold space for both immediate crisis and long-term change.

Responsibilities

• Participate in MCVP daytime coverage by responding to walk-ins, hotline calls, and scheduled appointments, while maintaining accurate, timely, and confidential documentation in accordance with organizational and legal standards.
• Serve as a liaison with DCYF and the Monadnock Region Child Advocacy Center to strengthen community response through enhanced communication, coordination, and shared accountability for survivor and child safety.
• Work closely with DCYF staff to identify and respond to cases involving both domestic violence and child abuse, providing consultation, education, and advocacy that strengthen trauma-informed and survivor-centered practice within DCYF and partner agencies.
• Engage in supervision, reflection, and collaboration with colleagues across programs to strengthen advocacy practice, ensure consistency in DCYF work, and support high-quality, survivor-centered care.
• Contribute to community outreach and public education efforts that promote safety, equity, and understanding of family violence while raising awareness of available support and resources.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, psychology, or related field. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of four years of related work experience may suffice.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, demonstrating diplomacy, tact, and respect in collaboration with survivors and partner agencies.
• Ability to establish healthy boundaries, trust, respect, and rapport with adults and children and to uphold confidentiality.
• Commitment to trauma-informed, survivor-centered, and culturally responsive practice.

Preferred Qualifications

• Understanding of domestic and sexual violence, stalking, sex trafficking, and their co-occurrence with child abuse.
• Knowledge of local social services and community resources.
• Experience providing crisis intervention, survivor advocacy, and education or awareness programming for the public or professionals.
• Demonstrated strategic thinking, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail.
• Brings a data-informed mindset and confidence using computers, databases, and digital tools.

Additional Requirements

• Participation in MCVP’s on-call rotation, offering after-hours support for survivors and community partners (additional compensation at a per-diem rate).
• Completion of advocacy training in accordance with NH RSA 173-C and DCYF Core Training, provided after hire. Plus, a minimum of six hours of continuing education annually.
• Reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout the Monadnock region.
• Valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and criminal background checks.
• Residency within 30 minutes of at least one of our local hospitals: Cheshire Medical Center in Keene and Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough.

Compensation and Benefits

• Salary range: $25-$26.50 per hour, commensurate with education and experience, and reviewed in line with MCVP’s existing compensation structure.
