Position Summary

The Direct Services Advocate provides direct, survivor-centered support to individuals and families experiencing domestic and sexual violence who access services through our office, crisis line, and community. This role focuses on crisis response, emotional support, safety planning, and connection to resources, while upholding MCVP’s values of dignity, autonomy, and trauma-informed care. The Direct Services Advocate works closely with staff to ensure continuity of services and is well suited for someone who is grounded, compassionate, and able to respond thoughtfully in high stress situations.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to survivors’ needs through direct advocacy services, including crisis and emotional support, safety planning, information about options and resources, referrals, accompaniment, and coordination with community partners such as courts, healthcare providers, schools, and social service agencies.
  • Develop, establish, and maintain collaborative working relationships with community partners including police, courts, attorneys, and medical, mental health and social service providers.
  • Support shelter guests through case management, including assisting with identifying needs, accessing resources, developing individualized plans, and making referrals.
  • Maintain clear, timely, and accurate client documentation in accordance with agency policies, funder requirements, and confidentiality standards.
  • Provide advocacy support during Child Advocacy Center interviews, including accompanying and supporting survivors and/or caregivers, as needed.
  • Collaborate with MCVP staff to support program continuity, participate in team meetings and supervision as scheduled, and contribute to a supportive, survivor-centered team environment.

Qualifications

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, human services, psychology, or related field. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of four years of related work experience may suffice.
  • Experience providing direct services in a nonprofit, social service, healthcare, or advocacy setting, particularly with individuals experiencing crisis, trauma, or systemic barriers.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, demonstrating diplomacy, tact, and respect in collaboration with survivors and partner agencies.
  • High emotional intelligence, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain appropriate boundaries while working with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to follow established protocols, document services accurately, and adapt to changing needs while maintaining a steady and supportive presence.

Other Qualifications

  • Understanding of domestic and sexual violence, stalking, sex trafficking, and their co-occurrence with child abuse.
  • Knowledge of local social services and community resources.
  • Experience providing crisis intervention, survivor advocacy, and education or awareness programming for the public or professionals.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking, strong organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Brings a data-informed mindset and confidence using computers, databases, and digital tools.

Additional Requirements

  • Participation in MCVP’s on-call rotation, offering after-hours support for survivors and community partners (additional compensation at a per-diem rate).
  • Completion of advocacy training in accordance with NH RSA 173-C and DCYF Core Training, provided after hire. Plus, a minimum of six hours of continuing education annually.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout the Monadnock region.
  • Valid driver’s license, vehicle insurance, and criminal background checks.
  • Residency within 30 minutes of at least one of our local hospitals: Cheshire Medical Center in Keene and Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough.

Compensation and Benefits

  • $25-$26.50/hour, reviewed in line with MCVP’s existing compensation structure.
