Job Summary
Under the direction of the System Chief Medical Officer and in collaboration with the Medical, Advanced Practice Professional, and Hospital staffs, the Medical Staff Director is responsible for the administration of all Medical Staff Office activities for Mon Health System. The Medical Staff Director is responsible for the management of all Medical Staff personnel across the system and establishing a culture of collaboration, innovation, and a focus on our clinicians. The role is also responsible for ensuring all credentialing and performance improvement activities are performed in accordance with all legal and regulatory requirements. The Medical Staff Director collaborates with all levels of hospital and system leadership to continuously improve all medical staff related processes to embed a culture of quality and safety through the facilitation of the System’s mission, vision, and values. The Medical Staff Director will work in tandem with the System Chief Medical Officer to drive key strategic initiatives for the System aimed at ensuring Mon Health clinicians deliver the best care for our patients. In doing so, the Medical Staff Director will play an integral role in promoting education, improving system performance and alignment, and ensuring all procedures are being followed across the system. The incumbent will directly support the System CMO with the objective of freeing him or her to focus on supporting system-wide clinical transformation. The MS Director will also serve as a liaison between physicians and administration on matters impacting Mon Health Medical Staffs.Additionally, the MS Director is responsible for driving significant change initiatives for Mon Health supporting a consistent and efficient approach to medical staff activities. Such initiatives include the following: Integrate and align all medical staff functions, including credentialing and performance improvement, into a system Medical Staff Office serving all Mon Health hospitals. Implement essential technology upgrades to support system-wide processes and promote consistent use of these tools across Mon Health. These technologies include but are not limited to MD Staff, MD Stat, electronic applications (MD App), DocuSign, and committee facilitation software. Reorganize the Medical Staff Office staffing model to include a single Central Verification Office and consolidate all performance improvement specialists under the umbrella of the Medical Staff Office. Work with senior physician leadership to streamline the governance of the Medical Staff including revision of Medical Staff Bylaws, reorganization of supporting committee structures, and adjustment of medical staff policies to establish a system approach when appropriate. Develop a comprehensive and consistent organizational model for service lines, departments, sections and clinician-leadership across the System. Assume primary responsibility for management of daily operations including credentialing and performance improvement activities to adhere to all legal and regulatory requirements. Encourage efficient, transparent processes and deliver an exceptional user-experience for all clinicians. Establish a seamless approach to onboarding physicians and advance practice providers including recruitment, credentialing and new provider orientation in concert with system leadership, Human Resources, and IT. Develop the medical staff policies and procedures necessary to allow Mon Health to grow and thrive, including the definition of procedures for delegated credentialing, credentialing by proxy, telemedicine and adoption of new medical advancements.
Responsibilities
Leadership
Helps prepare, manage and oversee the budget of the Medical Staff Office. Develops and fosters meaningful relationships with business stakeholders. Works with leadership to ensure resources are appropriately allocated. Manage and motivate a cross-facility team of Medical Staff professionals. Bring teams together to achieve common goals. Acknowledges and appreciates each team member's contributions. Generates enthusiasm among staff.
Growth and Development
Assist System CMO to identify priorities, strategically align his/her time with those priorities, and revisit them regularly to assess progress. Manage priorities and the strategic goals of the CMO. Facilitate onboarding of non-employed providers. Act as the System CMO’s proxy at meetings and/or gatekeeper of communications and the executive’s time. Administer processes and improve operational effectiveness. In collaboration with Medical Staff leadership, drive quality and consistency in Medical Staff initiatives and operating procedures. Proactively seeks opportunities to improve operations and executes plans to drive change.
Project Management
Act as a key thought partner, brainstorming & identifying solutions to challenges. Manage a variety of long-term, cross-organizational projects. Oversee meeting preparation and planning for Board of Directors; support System CMO in managing interactions with board chairs and committee leaders. Assist with management and leadership of Medical Staff projects to ensure participation and completion.
Performs Other Duties
Attends mandatory in-services, staff meetings, and actively participates in self-education. Completes all required staff performance assessments on time. Maintains required job knowledge (e.g. licensure and credentials, continuing education etc.). Performs other duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Light Work: Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 lbs. with a maximum lifting of 25 lbs.
10 years working in a health system or integrated delivery and financing network. Demonstrated knowledge in Medical Staff Administration, Quality Management, Process Improvement, Strategic Planning and Change Management. Must possess expertise in the understanding of Medical Staff credentialing process including practitioner appointment and reappointment. Must be familiar with Joint Commission and NCQA standards. Excellent interpersonal skills, presentation skills and experience working directly with physicians. Ability to organize and prioritize responsibilities. Ability to manage teams across multiple locations. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality relative to sensitive information. Ability to present in written and oral form to executive-level management. Ability to effectively use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar and email and database software in performing work assignments.
