JOB SUMMARY
The monitor tech is responsible for observing, interpreting, and communicating patient cardiac rhythms. The monitor tech will be provided with on-the-job training in analysis and interpretation of cardiac rhythms and will work within our patient-centered culture to provide effective and safe monitoring for patients requiring continuous cardiac monitoring. Successful candidates will be given training and will be required to pass a written test at the conclusion of orientation. The successful applicant will demonstrate good communication skills, the willingness and ability to work as a team with other members of the monitoring room, and a commitment to patient safety.
Education :
- High School Diploma or GED (Required)
Experience/Physical Requirements :
Medium Work: Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 lbs with a maximum lifting of 50 lbs.
Experience with cardiac rhythms or monitoring preferred but not required. Othermedical experience or training is helpful but not required.

JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides Clinical Support (Telemetry)
Responds to monitor alarms accurately and immediately. Troubleshoots as appropriate. Assigns telemetry box correctly. Notifies licensed nurse immediately of monitor dysfunction or change in cardiac activities. Ensures appropriate personnel constantly cover monitors. Notifies the appropriate staff when battery is low or patient is off monitor. Runs cardiac strips at the appropriate times; posts and/or files. Completes, and remains current on, monitor tech competency. Ensures proper documentation and indentification of patient by taking patient labels (with bar codes)and only one pack can be picked up at a time.
Supports Department
Ensures stock supply of paper and batteries are maintained at all times. Maintains accuracy of the Telemetry log book at all times. Timely communicates with clinical manager or designee for bed assignments or transfers.
Abuse and Neglect Reporting
Identifies appropriate cases of abuse and neglect and demonstrates knowledge of mandatoryreporting requirements. Satisfactorily completes mandatory competency or inservice training within established timeframe.
Lead
Compare and report actual vs. ordered telemetry on patients. Reveiw staffing on next shift and report issues to supervisor. Supervise telemetry pack distribution and monitor log.
Performs Other Duties as Required
Attends mandatory in-services, staff meetings, and actively participates in self-education. Completes all required competency assessments on time. Maintains required job knowledge (e.g. licensure and credentials, continuing education etc.). Attends a minimum of 6 staff meetings per year. Performs other duties as required. Complies with Self Scheduling expectations and follows guidelines.
