Summary
Assist in the day-to-day operations of the Health Information Management department to maintain a true unit record. Processes charts, analyzes charts, scans loose papers, makes copies, pulls charts and completes a variety of HIM tasks. Completes assigned HIM duties.Responsibilities
Files and Maintains Medical RecordsMaintains completeness of the medical record, as assigned. Assigns deficiencies as per established procedures. Completes all assigned functions independently with little or no supervision. Productivity is consistently at, or above, department average. Works as a team player; shares appropriate information, as observed by Supervisor. Pulls requested patient charts/information and delivers to clinical staff and/or sends via mail or fax, as assigned. Pulls and refiles charts for release of information purposes, as assigned. Ensures file area is maintained in an efficient and orderly manner, as assigned, and that all charts are filed. Scans all records to ensure optimal quality and immediate access in CIS. Performs QC on all scanned documents in an efficient, accurate and timely manner. Validates charts on all scanned documents in an efficient, accurate and timely manner. Always ensures the demographic information is correct, as assigned. Always corrects dates, physician names and other information within scope of responsibility. Assists in providing telephone coverage and always demonstrates excellent communication skills, telephone etiquette, and helpful attitude. Completes destruction notices and gives to HIM Director weekly for retention. Sorts loose and ancillary billable and looks up account numbers as necessary to prepare for scanning.
Customer Service
Works with other members of HIM staff to provide solutions to customer problems in a timely manner. Always demonstrates professional approach to customer issues. Actively listens to customer needs and concerns. Communicates with customers and gives them accurate, reliable, competent and timely information regarding their requests in a professional manner.
Performs Other Duties as Required
Attends staff meetings and attends internal education sessions as scheduled. Maintains required job knowledge and related certifications(e.g. licensure and credentials, continuing education etc.). Performs other duties as required.
Other Information
Light Work: Frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to10 lbs with a maximum lifting of 25 lbs.On-the-job-training. Computer/word processing skills preferred. Must possess reading, writing and mathematical skills and ability to understand written instruction.
