Queens, NY | Full-Time / Campaign Position
A progressive Queens Democrat is seeking an entry-level Press Secretary who is eager to learn, grow, and help tell the story of a people-powered campaign rooted in Queens and driven by shared values.
This role is ideal for someone looking to break into politics, communications, or public service—especially someone who understands our communities, believes deeply in justice and dignity, and wants to build a career grounded in collaboration and impact.
What You’ll Do:
- Assist with media outreach and act as a point of contact for reporters, under guidance from senior staff
- Draft and help translate press releases, media advisories, statements, and social copy in English and Spanish
- Help pitch stories to local, ethnic, and community media outlets
- Monitor news coverage and political developments relevant to the district and campaign
- Support preparation for interviews, including compiling talking points and background research
- Coordinate with field, digital, and policy teams to ensure consistent messaging
- Help elevate community stories, endorsements, and grassroots momentum through earned media
Who You Are:
- Strong interest in politics, public service, communications, or advocacy
- Spanish language proficiency is required (written and spoken)
- Clear writing skills and a willingness to learn how to translate policy into accessible, people-centered language
- Organized, dependable, and able to meet deadlines in a fast-moving environment
- Comfort speaking with people from diverse backgrounds and communities
- Commitment to progressive values, equity, and coalition-based leadership
- Prior campaign or communications experience is not required—volunteer, student, organizing, or community experience is welcome and valued
- Deep ties to Queens communities and awareness of progressive politics are a strong plus
