The Clinical Laboratory Aide (CLA) is a part-time position and is responsible for the pre-analytical tasks of receiving, recording and processing all inbound clinical laboratory specimens for testing. This is an essential role that requires strong attention to detail and the ability to focus in an environment that may have background noise and activity. Your mission as a CLA is to provide the utmost care and quality in handling precious specimens prior to them being processed in the laboratory.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for the receipt, and recording of all clinical laboratory samples for testing into LIMS.
- Responsible for performing work safely and applying all relevant protocols
- Prepares samples for testing
- Responsible for creating necessary documentation, follow up, and result entry for samples that need to be outsourced.
- Resolve and correctly document incomplete or unacceptable specimens
- Responsible for requesting and receiving inventory consumables in a timely manner
- Maintain sufficient inventory of material, supplies, and equipment in the laboratory for performance duties
- Takes responsibility and ownership for timely and quality completion of work
- Highly productive/efficient/effective in the lab
- Detailed-oriented, time-organized and ensures completion of tasks
- Ability to work independently and within teams
- Be able to recognize when to escalate issues encountered in the lab
- Works to overcome obstacles to completing tasks or assignments
- Ability to network, develop good interdepartmental communication skills and interact effectively across groups

- Provide support to the Clinical Laboratory Technicians (CLTs)
Qualifications
- 0-2 years experience in a scientific discipline, with experience in a CLIA environment preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in a Biology or similar concentration preferred, but not necessary
- Ability to read, understand, and comply with detailed procedures that ensure the safety of all
- Demonstrate the ability to work both independently, following detailed work instructions, and as part of a cohesive team that together completes daily sample intake and processing in a timely manner
- Ability to multitask and prioritize duties to meet timelines
- Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills are essential
