GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The Production Painter is responsible for preparing surfaces and painting steel fabricated and non-fabricated parts and assemblies. This role is required to maintain daily upkeep of production painting equipment, paint booth, and paint line. This position works under the direction of Production Leader or other manufacturing leaders.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Clean and paint steel fabricated and non-fabricated parts and assemblies.
- Use and daily upkeep of production painting equipment, paint booth and paint line. This includes proper upkeep and cleaning of equipment, storage and management of paint materials and supplies, and proper handling of paint waste.
- Monitors and maintains proper paint booth operations for air flow and heating.
- Apply correct color and thickness of paint products.
- Move materials to and from the painting department.
- Responsible for paint equipment and ensuring proper paint and processes are used for each job.
- Report observed problems to supervisor (bad welds, bent/broken parts, etc.)
- Complete and turn in paint compliance sheet at the end or start of each shift.
- Receives direction from team lead or another designated leader.
- Maintain clean and organized work area and equipment and comply with safety requirements.
- Safely operate crane and/or forklift if trained and assigned and perform work in a safe manner and complete all required safety inspections.
- Actively participate in cross training and continuous improvement assignments.
- Work cooperatively with coworkers including training and knowledge sharing.
- Learn new skills, techniques and equipment operation as assigned.
- Adhere to safety rules and guidelines.
- Lift material and parts.
- Perform work in a safe manner, complete all required safety inspections and adhere to safety rules and guidelines including safely operate crane and/or forklift, if trained and assigned.
- Maintains conformance with safety rules and regulations, if you are unclear of or uncomfortable with a safety process then you have an obligation to make your supervisor aware.
- It is required that if you see or are made aware of a safety related issue or concern to immediately address it or make management aware.
- Involved with continuous improvement efforts regarding all aspects of safety.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment.
- May work overtime as production needs require.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, and SKILLS:
- A minimum of three (3) years experience in a manufacturing environment in a production or industrial painting role.
- Experience with use and upkeep of airless and HVLP spray equipment and systems, paint booth operation, and routine maintenance.
- Experience in painting quality standards, including adhesion control, film thickness, temperature and humidity, operation of booth controls.
- Experience with industrial paint products.
- Able to follow verbal instructions and requests from immediate supervisor or other members of management.
- Must work productively and cooperatively with limited supervision.
- Demonstrated experience using industrial spray-painting equipment.
- Knowledge and experience in surface preparation, masking and spraying of paint products.
- Knowledge of paint types, adhesion and curing concepts.
- Be able to understand work instructions or engineering descriptions for paint applications.
- Experience in the visual quality inspection of finished parts.
- Knowledge of mixing and preparing paints and thinners.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with management and co-workers.
- Must have a proficient working knowledge of Mohawk’s products.
- Must be detail oriented with attention to accuracy.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English language and be understood.
- Must be able to work with minimum supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Basic shop math.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met. Physical activity includes walking, standing, pushing, pulling, kneeling, grasping, bending, reaching above shoulders and lifting up to 50 pounds. If work demands require lifting in excess of 50 pounds, the use of a mechanical device or initiation of a two-person lift is required.
