General Description
Responsible for carrying out work assignments as directed and instructed. Must be able to operate specific equipment and perform basic/simple set-up (lathe/mill) to perform a variety of machining operations. Work to close tolerances and fine finishes.
Prerequisites
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Ability to read and understand prints and/or drawings.
- Basic knowledge of shop math.
- Ability to use precision measuring instruments.
Specific Duties
- Perform basic/simple set-up and operate specific CNC lathes or mills under supervision, following written and verbal instructions while meeting productivity goals.
- Use precision instruments and measuring devices including, but not limited to, micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, and depth gauges.
- Check and inspect work in progress to ensure all parts conform to drawing specifications. Perform visual and mechanical checks on parts produced as required and take appropriate action if defects are found.
- Work other shifts as instructed, either on a permanent or temporary basis.
- Maintain a general understanding of jigs and fixtures.
- Use set-up sheets and follow Process Control Procedures/Work Instructions.
- Make adjustments and/or change cutting tools when size and finish begin to vary from drawing tolerances.
- Operate miscellaneous hand tools such as small drill presses, air grinders, drill motors, etc.
- Perform secondary operations while running primary equipment as required.
- Correctly fill out SPC charts if required for the job.
- Accurately complete all required paperwork.
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a safety-minded approach.
- Maintain cleanliness and good housekeeping in the work area.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
