CDL Driver – Local (Heat Treat Division)
Position Summary
The CDL Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of materials between Modern Industries’ Heat Treat Division and customer locations within a local and regional service area. This position supports operations by ensuring timely delivery, proper handling of materials, and accurate completion of all required documentation.
Employees are expected to perform their duties in accordance with Company policies, applicable laws and regulations, and Modern Industries’ commitment to quality, safety, and customer service.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Operate Company vehicles in a safe and lawful manner in accordance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements
- Transport materials to and from customer locations within an approximate 2–3 hour radius of the facility
- Load and unload materials in a manner that prevents damage and maintains product integrity
- Verify the accuracy of shipments and maintain proper identification and traceability of all materials
- Complete all required documentation, including delivery records, inspection reports, and logs, in an accurate and timely manner
- Perform required pre-trip and post-trip inspections and report any mechanical issues or unsafe conditions
- Maintain assigned vehicles in a clean and orderly condition and promptly report maintenance concerns
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and appropriate personnel regarding delivery schedules, delays, or issues
- Interact with customers and vendors in a professional manner consistent with Company expectations
- Comply with all Company safety policies, procedures, and work rules
- Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and Company operations
Qualifications
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) – Class A or Class B, as required
- Acceptable driving record in accordance with Company standards
- Knowledge of applicable DOT regulations and safe driving practices
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
- Demonstrated reliability, dependability, and good attendance
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move materials, with or without assistance
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical tasks associated with loading and unloading
- Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments and in varying weather conditions
Work Environment and Schedule
- Local driving only; overnight travel is not typically required
- Routes are generally within a 2–3 hour radius of the Erie, PA facility
- Work schedules may include early start times and overtime as required based on business needs
