Service Writer - Power Generators

Position: Power Systems Service Writer
Pay Range: $72,800-83,200
Schedule: M-F, 8am-5pm with 1 hour break
Location: ON-SITE (remote applicants will not be considered)

We are seeking an experienced Power Systems Service Writer to join our growing service team. This position serves as a key link between our field technicians, aftermarket sales representatives, vendors, and service operations team to ensure repair recommendations are accurately quoted, submitted, approved, and moved into production.

The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in the generator or power generation industry. This is an excellent opportunity for a current or former generator technician who is looking to transition out of the field while continuing to use their technical knowledge and experience.

Our ideal candidate understands the realities of generator field service and can take a technician's findings and turn them into a complete, accurate repair proposal. You may be an experienced generator technician who enjoys the technical side of the industry but is ready to get off the road and move into an office-based role.

This position allows you to continue using your generator and troubleshooting knowledge without the daily travel and physical demands of field service. You'll play an important role in helping our technicians and customers move recommended repairs from diagnosis through approval and completion.

Key Responsibilities

• Review technician service reports, recommendations, parts requirements, and repair findings to develop accurate customer repair quotes.
• Work closely with field technicians and aftermarket sales representatives to obtain the technical information needed to prepare quotes.
• Enter, prepare, and submit repair quotes through company systems.
• Review technician recommendations and ensure the appropriate labor, parts, materials, travel, and other costs are included in repair estimates.
• Communicate with vendors and subcontractors to obtain pricing and coordinate sublet repairs and specialty services.
• Follow up on outstanding vendor pricing and information needed to complete customer proposals.
• Process approved customer quotes and convert them into service work orders for scheduling and completion.
• Ensure approved work includes accurate scope, parts, labor, vendor requirements, and customer information before being released to the service team.
• Coordinate with parts, dispatch, technicians, aftermarket sales, and service management as needed throughout the repair process.
• Maintain organized records of quotes, approvals, vendor proposals, and supporting documentation.
• Assist with identifying additional information needed from technicians when service reports do not contain enough detail to accurately quote a repair.
• Help maintain timely turnaround of repair quotes and communicate any delays or outstanding requirements to the appropriate team members.
• Occasional field service work to verify generator installation in accordance with vendor guidelines.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in the generator, power generation, electrical, diesel engine, or related service industry strongly preferred.
• Former generator technicians or field service technicians looking to transition into an office-based position are strongly encouraged to apply.
• Ability to understand technician service reports, troubleshooting findings, repair recommendations, and basic generator system terminology.
• Familiarity with generator engines, electrical systems, controls, transfer switches, and associated equipment is a plus.
• Strong computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
• Ability to learn and work efficiently within company quoting, service, and ERP systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately translate technical findings into a clear scope of work.
• Ability to manage multiple quotes and priorities in a fast-paced service environment.
• Strong organizational and follow-up skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with technicians, vendors, sales representatives, customers, and internal departments.

Pay: $72,800.00 - $83,200.00 per year
