At Modern Eye Care, our focus is on patient care while providing complete comprehensive eye examinations, using the most innovative instrumentation and Optometric materials in the industry.
The Optometric Technician's primary goal is to provide smooth flow and operation for the doctors and patients, while assisting the doctors with patient care eye examinations.
Excellent professionalism, communication and organizational skills are required for this position.
Optometric Technician (doctor assistant) duties are, but not limited to as follows:
- Conduct preliminary tests to assess patient vision and eye health
- Assist in the use of ophthalmic instruments to conduct eye examinations
- Measure visual acuity and other diagnostic tests
- Administer eye drops and other medications under the supervision of an optometrist
- Educate patients on proper eye care and contact lens usage
- Take patient medical histories and update records
- Prepare examination rooms by ensuring necessary instruments and supplies are in place
- Assist during patient examinations and treatments
- Manage patient scheduling and appointment reminders
- Perform minor repairs on eyewear
- Maintain clean and sanitary clinical environments
- Assist with frame adjustments and fittings
- Perform visual field testing and other specialized procedures
- Handle patient billing and insurance claims processing
- Provide excellent customer service and assist with patient inquiries
- Greet patient's and address them professionally
- Confirm demographic information, chart family health histories, review patient vision concerns.
- Follow all security and privacy related to HIPAA.
- Prepare charts for the day and assist with pulling patient insurance information.
- Maintain and secure patient information explain and guide patients through all testing procedures as preparation for their visit with the doctor. Including working with contact lenses
- Perform specialty testing as needed.
Qualifications and Skills for this Position:
- Previous experience as an Optometric Technician or in a similar role
- Certification from a recognized optometry technician program
- Knowledge of optical and optometric terminology
- Familiarity with electronic health records systems
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Proficiency in using ophthalmic instruments and equipment
- Strong customer service skills
- Ability to multitask and manage time effectively
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to maintain confidential and accurate patient records
- Strong problem-solving abilities
- Good manual dexterity and coordination
- Ability to work well as part of a team
- Willingness to learn and stay updated on the latest in eye care practices and technologies
