Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Objective: The Assistant Vehicle Prep Technician is responsible for installing and maintaining wireless communications systems which include two-way radios, computer systems, software and security systems in new ambulances. Scope of responsibility includes computing equipment and software applications, peripheral devices and Vehicle Driver feedback systems (Road Safety).
Essential Duties:
- Know and support the Mission Statement, Policy/Procedures and standards of MMR.
- Assists in Installation of equipment for preparing a new ambulance for service and other systems managed by the department.
- Assist in configuration and maintenance of wireless communications hardware, software and security systems.
- Assists with system modifications and repairs.
- Assists Department with minor Automotive repairs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skill and Competency Requirements:
- State of Michigan Certified in Automotive Electrical Systems preferred
- Experienced in 12 volt wiring connections and soldering
- Possess and maintain a valid Michigan driver license and maintain an acceptable driving record as defined by MMR’s insurance carrier
- Must be available for on call 24 hours a day for emergency situations
- 6 months of prior work experience in vehicle electronics systems
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, in a professional manner with customers and vendors
- Ability to gain respect from others
- Basic computer skills including the ability to utilize a computer PC with Windows operating system
- Ability to operate office equipment, including but not limited to, copier, fax machine, scanner, monitor, multi-line telephone, printer, typewriter and calculator
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
- Skilled in typing, data entry, electronic filing, document retrieval
- Ability to maintain sound budgetary practices
- Ability to exercise initiative, judgment and problem solving during decision making
- Ability to develop effective work relationships with staff, government agencies and the public
- Must furnish own tools
- Must be at least 18 years old
Working Conditions: This position requires occasional travel. Hours of work may vary to include early mornings, late evenings and weekends. Regular scheduling involves long shifts and occasional scheduled and unscheduled overtime. May occasionally work in outside weather conditions. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places. Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humidity, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, cold, heat and risk of electrical shock. The noise level is usually moderate but may be high at times due to vehicle or mechanical equipment noise.
