Duties
- Safely operate commercial vehicles such as school buses, transit buses, and wheelchair-accessible vans following all traffic laws and transportation safety regulations.
- Assist passengers with wheelchair assistance and provide exceptional customer service to diverse rider populations, including children and seniors.
- Conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety, including checking brakes, lights, tires, and emergency equipment.
- Follow emergency response procedures for transportation incidents and respond promptly to traffic changes or unexpected situations.
- Maintain accurate logs of trips, passenger counts, and vehicle maintenance reports in compliance with state and local laws.
- Enforce student discipline policies when transporting school children and manage passenger behavior professionally.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers, passengers, and team members using clear language and multilingual skills when applicable.
Experience
- Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements for passenger transport (e.g., P endorsement for passenger vehicles).
- Proven experience operating buses or similar commercial vehicles in a safe manner.
- Knowledge of traffic laws, vehicle codes, transportation safety regulations, and emergency stop procedures.
- Experience working with children or senior citizens is highly desirable.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting passengers or handling equipment.
- Strong communication skills in English; multilingual abilities are a plus for serving diverse communities.
- Familiarity with student discipline policies, behavior management techniques, and school policy knowledge is preferred.
