What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr. Cloud Platform Engineering Manager position at MMD Services?
Our partner company is a high-growth global enterprise (15,000 employees, 30 locations) in the midst of a large-scale digital and infrastructure transformation. Backed by strong executive sponsorship and significant investment, they are consolidating fragmented on-prem data centers, VMware estates, and multi-cloud environments into a modern, AWS-first cloud platform.
This is not a lift-and-shift initiative it’s a full-scale platform re-architecture focused on cloud-native design, Kubernetes orchestration, DevOps enablement, and infrastructure automation.
They are seeking a hands-on, engineering-first Cloud Platform Leader to drive this transformation owning everything from architecture and migration strategy to platform engineering, DevOps maturity, and long-term cloud optimization.
This Senior Manager will operate at the intersection of Cloud Architecture, DevOps, and Platform Engineering, partnering closely with application, SRE, and infrastructure teams to build a scalable, secure, and highly automated AWS ecosystem.
You’ll lead a small but high-impact team while remaining deeply technical setting standards, making architectural decisions, and driving execution.
This is a hybrid onsite role in Bolingbrook, IL (not remote).
What You’ll Own
- Lead the development, design and management of scalable Cloud architecture solutions driving Cloud migration & modernization
- Manage and mentor a team of cloud, server, and infrastructure engineers
- Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, DevOps, and business stakeholders
- Architect and lead an enterprise-wide transition to an AWS-first, cloud-native platform
- Design scalable, resilient architectures leveraging EKS (Kubernetes), VPC design, IAM, and multi-account strategies
- Establish reference architectures, golden paths, and reusable infrastructure patterns
- Develop cloud architecture strategies that align with business objectives
- Manage vendor relationships related to hardware, software, licensing, and support agreements.
- Champion Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation) and GitOps practices
- Build and optimize CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, etc.)
- Lead multi-phase migration strategy: rehost, replatform, refactor
- Drive data center exit initiatives and workload rationalization
- Modernize legacy applications into cloud-native, containerized architectures
- Manage and reduce complexity across on-prem, VMware, Azure, and AWS environments
- Own interim hybrid architecture while aggressively migrating toward AWS
- Implement SRE principles, monitoring, logging, and alerting (Prometheus, CloudWatch, etc.)
- Ensure security best practices across environments (IAM, encryption, zero-trust principles)
- Align with NIST/CIS frameworks
- Establish cloud cost governance and optimization strategies
- Drive accountability for AWS spend, efficiency, and resource utilization
What You Bring
- 8 years in cloud engineering, infrastructure, or platform engineering
- 5 years leading technical teams in high-scale environments
- Deep, hands-on expertise with AWS (required) and cloud architecture
- Proven success leading enterprise-scale cloud migrations and modernization initiatives
- Experience building and scaling DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
- Experience in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform preferred)
- Strong understanding of hybrid cloud environments and migration strategies
- Experience with observability, reliability engineering, and cloud security frameworks
- Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on in a transformation environment

Salary : $170,000 - $200,000
