Cost & Inventory Accountant (ERP Data Quality Control)

We recently implemented a state-of-the-art ERP system (Business Central/PrintVis) and quickly realized a fundamental truth: the software is only as good as the data entered into it. We are looking for a hands-on Cost & Inventory Accountant to serve as the ultimate guardian of our books and system integrity.

This is not a traditional, back-office "corporate reporting" role. You will be the financial detective and quality control anchor for our manufacturing operations—specifically our Flexpak division. If you love stepping away from your desk, walking the production floor, and solving real-world inventory and data puzzles from scratch, this is your home.

Position Overview

This role bridges the gap between physical plant floor reality and our digital general ledger. You will work closely with plant leadership (Walter and Russell) to build costing and tracking processes from the ground up.

• 75% Inventory Audit & ERP Quality Control: Reconciling raw-to-finished goods, managing complex conversions, and auditing floor processes.
• 25% General Ledger & Close Activities: Standard month-end journal entries, reconciliations, and audit prep.

Key Responsibilities:

Inventory Integrity & ERP Quality Control (75%)

• The System Guard: Oversee and audit ERP data inputs relating to production workflows, material usage, and inventory staging to ensure absolute data accuracy.
• Process Architecture: Partner with production and warehouse leads to build, refine, and document inventory tracking processes from the ground up.
• Floor Detective Work: Spend significant time on the plant floor (converting, shipping/receiving, and the press room) to investigate discrepancies between physical inventory and system records.
• Complex Material Conversions: Manage detailed calculations involving complex unit-of-measure (UOM) conversions (e.g., tracking liquid ink consumption from ounces into finished material footage).
• BOM Integrity: Maintain, audit, and optimize Bills of Materials (BOMs) and routings, ensuring actual material waste and labor hours align with standard costs.
• Variance Investigation: Perform regular actual-vs.-FIFO variance analysis to catch system or human errors early, identifying root causes on the shop floor.
• Cycle Counting Leadership: Direct the plant cycle count and physical inventory schedules across multiple domestic and international locations.

Financial Foundations & GL Support (25%)

• Execute month-end close procedures specifically focused on inventory valuations, accruals, and work-in-process (WIP) accounts.
• Perform monthly general ledger reconciliations and verify strict GAAP compliance.
• Develop clear, simple work instructions and automated spreadsheets to streamline training and eliminate manual user entry errors.
• Support external audits by compiling clean, organized documentation and clear transaction schedules.

What You Bring to the Table:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
• Experience: 3 years of progressive accounting experience with a heavy emphasis on plant-level inventory control or cost analysis.
• Environment Fit: Thrives in smaller, scrappy, mid-market environments where systems are still being built out (candidates exclusively from large corporate IT structures may find the scope too fluid).
• The "Auditor" Mindset: A natural knack for quality control, process tracking, and identifying data gaps.
• Technical Rigor: Deep comfort with standard costing logic, FIFO calculations, and advanced Excel modeling (formulas, lookups, data cleansing). Experience with Microsoft Dynamics / Business Central is a major plus.
• Communication Style: Calm, clear, and steady. You can explain a financial system discrepancy to a press room supervisor slowly and methodically, cutting out corporate jargon.
