SUMMARY:
The Mechanic will work for Mizkan America, Inc. at the Owensboro, Kentucky (Ragu) sauce plant. The plant is a high-speed processing and packaging facility which produces sauces for both the Ragu and Bertolli pasta sauce brands. This position reports to the shift supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Mizkan America safety policies, OSHA regulations, GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), and SOP (Standard Operating Procedures).
- Safely perform Preventative Maintenance (PM) through machinery and equipment inspection.
- Perform follow-up corrective and/or improvement repair.
- Application of lubrication techniques.
- Support and respond to daily operational issues.
- Projects involving diagnosis of mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, basic power distribution and basic control circuitry hardware malfunctions and make necessary repairs.
- Set up and operate machine tools.
- Fit and align bearings, spindles, shafts, and adjust feed mechanisms.
- Perform machine set up, adjustments, and equipment rebuild for all lines.
- Initiate equipment improvements and work with various plant support groups in the identification and resolution of manufacturing related problems.
- Must participate in and provide leadership in the advancement of Continuous Improvement (TPM) throughout the manufacturing area.
- Support pre-shift meetings for assigned work area.
- Assume an active role in overall plant and facilities related work.
- May also be assigned responsibilities in the areas of plumbing, pipefitting, metal working, carpentry, mechanics, electricity, facility/grounds maintenance, ammonia system, water recover, boilers and fire protection system.
- Works in a cooperative and engaged manner with team members, leadership, and other departments.
- Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required
- Associate degree in business field preferred
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Equivalent to vocational or high school education supplemented by five years of applicable industrial maintenance experience to acquire a fundamental knowledge of one or more of the traditional maintenance trades.
- Ability to read blueprints, have knowledge of shop mathematics, and use of measuring tools.
- Willingness to participate in and ability to learn from Company sponsored training programs and self-study, to supplement on-the job experience toward the development of required skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy required.
- Must be respectful and work well with all levels of personnel.
- Great work attitude, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to work overtime on short notice basis. Long-term, temporary assignments to any shift may be required to maintain manufacturing processes.
- Ability to work in high temperatures (hot or cold), working at heights and exposure to strong smells, dust, gases, fumes and chemical or require personal protective equipment.
- Ability to use Personal Protective Equipment.
- Must be able to pass a post offer pre-employment drug screening, pre-employment background check, and pre-employment physical.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical aspects of the job as performed in an 8-hour workday.
- Must be able to see, sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, reach, bend, twist, ascend/ descend.
- Ability to pull, push, lift and carry up to 50 lbs., 50 lbs. with assistance.
