About The Role
In this role this person will be responsible for the design, development, troubleshooting, and regulatory compliance of electrical systems, including PCB layouts and mechanical layouts, for battery technologies. This role requires a detail-oriented individual capable of contributing to the design, testing, documentation, and field service support for energy systems.
What You Will Do
- Establish component requirements and collaborate closely with vendors to choose and incorporate essential electrical subsystem components into our products
- Lead the design and development of electrical systems, including schematic capture, PCB layout, and mechanical layouts for battery management systems (BMS) and other battery-related hardware
- Assist in the preparation of prototypes for testing, including assembling and validating hardware to meet performance requirements. Ensure prototypes are fully functional before undergoing testing
- Support the testing and validation of battery systems to ensure they meet relevant regulatory standards (e.g., UL 2580, CE, IEC, etc.). Work with testing teams to address compliance gaps and implement necessary changes to designs
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to perform Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify potential risks and implement design improvements
- Create and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including schematics, drawings, specifications, and manufacturing instructions to ensure designs meet quality and regulatory standards
- Actively participate in troubleshooting, issue tracking, and resolution for any current or future energy system-related field service requests. Collaborate with service teams to address technical challenges and implement effective solutions
- 5%-10% Travel
- Onsite presence; will require this position to reside near our Marengo, Illinois
- The work is primarily done in an office environment with other work locations including development lab, manufacturing line, and field locations such as customer facilities. Microsoft office suite of tools. Basic electrical, mechanical tool usage along with battery cyclers.
What you need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Systems or related field of study)
- 3 years of experience in energy systems, systems design and power systems
- Proven experience in hardware design, including PCB layout, electrical circuit design, and mechanical layout
- Demonstrable experience in energy storage solutions, integration and evaluation
- Familiarity with Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and other risk management methodologies
- Proficient with CAD tools for PCB design (e.g., Altium, Eagle, etc.) and mechanical design (e.g., Creo, Solidworks)
- Experience in creating and maintaining engineering drawings and design documentation
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work in a collaborative, cross-functional team environment.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations related to battery hardware and electronics (e.g., UL 2580, IEC, CE, etc.).
- Deep understanding and experience of vehicle communication networks including CANbus and associated protocols
- Demonstrable experience in using Vector CAN tools like CANalyzer or other tools like P-CAN etc.
- Experience working with various suppliers and solution vendors
- Experience with Firmware and software integration on electrical sub systems
- Experience with battery heating, cooling architecture, hands-on with design, testing of power electronics, electric motors, controllers, converts, etc.

Salary : $95,000 - $115,000
