Toolmaker/Machinist
Location: Reading, PA
Shift: Monday-Friday | 7:00 AM-3:00 PM
Pay Rate: $26.25-$36.05 per hour
The Toolmaker / Machinist is responsible for the precision fabrication, modification, repair, and maintenance of tooling, dies, fixtures, and production components using manual and CNC machining equipment. - Comply with all company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
- Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and all plant safety requirements.
- Set up and operate manual and CNC equipment including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and related machinery.
- Program CNC equipment as required to support tooling and production needs.
- Interpret complex blueprints, sketches, specifications, and verbal instructions.
- Analyze specifications and determine machining methods, tooling requirements, and sequence of operations.
- Layout, measure, mark, and scribe metal stock for machining operations.
- Fabricate, modify, repair, and assemble tooling, dies, fixtures, and machine components.
- Evaluate standard tooling and determine necessary modifications or improvements.
- Develop tooling specifications from general descriptions and create sketches or drawings when required.
- Apply knowledge of tool design, shop mathematics, metallurgy, and machining processes to meet production requirements.
- Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on department equipment.
- Operate forklifts or powered hand trucks as needed.
- Use precision measuring instruments (height gauges, micrometers, calipers, pi tapes, etc.) to ensure dimensional accuracy.
- Inspect finished components to verify compliance with quality standards.
- Maintain work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition (5S standards).
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Trade school certification, formal apprenticeship, or equivalent hands-on machining experience preferred.
- Strong English reading, writing, mathematical, and comprehension skills.
- Ability to read and understand MSDS sheets, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
- Working knowledge of precision measuring equipment and inspection techniques.
- Demonstrated experience with manual and CNC machining operations.
- Strong understanding of tooling design and metal properties.
- Ability to perform physical job requirements, including standing, lifting, and operating machinery for extended periods.
