Mitchell Hamline School of Law is seeking to hire a full-time Career Advisor. The Career Advisor is responsible for supporting students in the development of their career and procurement of employment (paid and unpaid), both during and after law school

Essential Responsibilities:

Career Advising

  • Provide support and one-on-one counseling to caseload of law students regarding their career development and job search strategies.
  • Stay informed about the trends and developments in the legal industry
  • Assist students in exploring career paths and gaining relevant experience.
  • Partner with students to develop job search strategies, polish application materials, develop and practice interview skills, formulate negotiation strategy and provide overall job application support.
  • Use 12twenty to support the mission of the office, including tracking engagement activities with students and employers, ensuring that records remain accurate and up to date. Track and report on student employment outcomes. Reach out to all students assigned to you at least once a school year.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with student organizations to share relevant information and resources.
  • In collaboration and coordination with team members, actively develop and advise students regarding experiential learning opportunities.

Programming and Materials

  • Develop, plan and execute programming and events.
  • Develop and maintain job search resources and materials, such as tip sheets, job postings, and networking opportunities.
  • Help with material development.

Employer Outreach

  • Stay informed on employment opportunities and career paths to advise applicants effectively.
  • Build and maintain relationships with potential employers.
  • Coordinate with externship hosts to conduct externship vetting in a timely manner and maintain externship records.
  • Perform other projects and tsks as department needs require.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Preferred: Master's degree in Counseling, Higher Education or related field
  • 3 years of experience working in recruitment, career advising or development, student services, or academic advising.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, especially those in the areas of collaboration, conflict resolution, problem solving and decision making; strong organization and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and constituents.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse student and alumni population.
  • Ability to work well without close supervision.
  • Strong general written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends as required.

Salary range:

The anticipate salary range for this position is $53,000 - $74,000 per year, depending on qualifications.

  • Flexible work schedule, following the initial training period there is the opportunity to work remotely 1-2 days per week, this is dependent on needs of the department/school.
