Senior Systems Administrator Date: Apr 15, 2026 Location: Lexington, MA, US Company: MIT Lincoln Laboratory The Advanced Capabilities and Systems Group is an agile, innovative, multi-disciplinary team developing novel system and technology concepts that address the nation’s critical security challenges. The group leverages focused analysis to understand solutions to defense and intelligence problems and then develops the solutions in a fast cycle of experimentation and prototyping. Frequent engagements with government intelligence and military users connect the group to their unique missions and needs. Projects often involve analysis of mission needs, systems integration to satisfy those needs, and prototyping of tactical systems to demonstrate the capability. Our multi-disciplinary team consists of talented technical staff with expertise in electromagnetics, optics, signal processing, RF design, statistics, optimization, computer vision, machine learning, software engineering, and embedded systems. Position Description The Advanced Capabilities and Systems Group is seeking a senior systems administrator to become part of a small IT team that supports our analytical and prototyping teams. The senior system administrator will work with a team to build and maintain the group’s computing and network infrastructure to provide IT support to the technical teams as needed. The senior system administrator will need to develop creative technical solutions to complex IT problems. Qualified candidates must be able to expand and maintain computer hardware, software, and networks for a variety of Linux operating systems, including Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Ubuntu. The candidate must possess a solid understanding of Ubuntu; RHEL; network fundamentals; Active Directory; and DoD IT security requirements and procedures including Risk Management Framework and Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC). Skills in Windows support are desirable. They should also be team-oriented, have strong communication skills, have the desire to work in a research and development environment, present a high level of professionalism, and be comfortable dealing with classified information in a closed area. Roles and Responsibilities Provide direct user support on a regular basis Install, maintain, repair, and upgrade computers and network equipment Configure network devices such as routers and switches Manage networks, file share, virtual infrastructures and SAN/NAS environments Document IT Procedures Remediate vulnerabilities and maintain compliance with security policies Review and test new hardware and software to make recommendations for purchases Represent the group as a team member for inter-organizational interactions such as infrastructure and security working groups Trouble shoot software in a complex rapidly changing environment Work with centralized IT through Service Now ticketing system Support Windows, Linux, and WSL based platforms, virtual systems, applications, and users Configure Linux system especially SELinux to meet DoD STIG requirements Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree (Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred) or equivalent experience Minimum of six years of experience supporting Windows and Linux systems including configuration management, software installation/configuration, and network configuration Selected candidate will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance Demonstrated track record to work independently A current DoD 8570 level II or higher certification employment preferred.
