Job Description

The Department of Nuclear Engineering & Radiation Science (NERS) at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) in Rolla, Missouri is seeking outstanding applicants for an assistant or associate teaching professor, non-tenure-track faculty position in all areas of nuclear engineering. Preference will be given to applicants who can contribute to the department's areas of strength such as delivery of fundamental and core nuclear science and engineering classes at undergraduate and graduate levels, delivery of instruction mode that embraces innovative teaching/experiential learning, and deployment of successful distance education/e-learning. Competitive salary commensurate with the rank and qualifications of the candidates will be offered.

Successful candidates will be expected to have strong commitments to (a) high-quality teaching both at the undergraduate and graduate levels, (b) service in the applicant's professional community and our institution, and (c) supporting the mission of the department. Applicants should have evidence of potential for excellence in teaching and service. Senior candidates should have demonstrated excellence in teaching.

NERS has a proud history of positively impacting society through ground-breaking research and advancing the quality and breadth of its educational mission, granting an ABET-accredited BS, as well as MS and PhD degrees in nuclear engineering. Currently the department is experiencing unprecedented growth in enrollment, research, and external support. The department currently has 8 tenured or tenure-track professors and is a leader in undergraduate education in nuclear engineering. The department has consistently ranked among top 5 US institutions awarding undergraduate degree in nuclear engineering over the past four years. There are just over 200 undergraduate and graduate students in NERS on campus. The Missouri S&T Reactor (MSTR) is a 200kW pool-type reactor that sees extensive use for educational purposes and is capable of delivering reactor laboratory experiments in a distance education format. The department is particularly proud of its connection to US national labs, nuclear power utilities, and various nuclear technology vendors. The university is one of the 12 SUPER agreement schools with Idaho National Laboratory.

Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in nuclear engineering or a closely related field. Eligibility for professional engineering registration is considered an asset.

The college includes more than 170 ranked faculty members who serve in 16 undergraduate programs, all with master's and doctoral equivalents organized into nine academic departments.
