What are the responsibilities and job description for the Housing Navigator position at Missouri Shores Domestic Violence Center?
Missouri Shores Domestic Violence Center (MSDVC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit located in Pierre, SD. We are dedicated to ending domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, and human trafficking by responding to emergency needs and educating our community. This is a fast-paced environment with a compassionate, supportive atmosphere.
Housing Navigator Statement of Duties:
- Work closely with the Executive Director to maintain fiscal responsibility;
- Comply with all ESG and Transitional Housing requirements;
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with property managers;
- Complete intake paperwork and screen clients for eligibility in accordance with ESG and Transitional Housing guidelines;
- Meet with clients for case management on an agreed-upon basis;
- Assist clients with budgeting, life skills, securing housing and employment, and seeking out other essential resources;
- Maintain detailed case notes and client files;
- Enter data and submit reports in a timely and accurate manner;
- Assist with crisis intervention and case management for clients both in and out of shelter; assist with protection orders and court accompaniment; assist with other client needs as requested;
- Must take the crisis phone one night per week and some weekends when needed;
- Other duties as assigned.
Housing Navigator Qualifications:
- Must be compassionate and have a strong desire to help others;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, and organization skills;
- Ability to work effectively with the public and a large variety of people;
- Must be dependable and have good judgment and initiative to solve problems;
- Must be able to respond to a higher degree of crisis and keep composure and self-control while using trauma-informed best practices;
- Must be aware and sensitive to special needs populations, other cultures, and lifestyle differences;
- Experience related to domestic and sexual violence or crisis intervention is preferred but not required;
- Must able to travel occasionally for conferences or trainings.
Requirements:
- Applicant must pass a pre-employment background check;
- Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license;
- Applicant must have reliable source of transportation.

Pay: $20.00 per hour
