Job Description
The Writing Center specialist works 40 hours per week. The ideal candidate must be qualified to provide in-person or online services, tutor students, and edit student papers; familiar with APA and MLA style guides; and enthusiastic to reach out to academic units. Special consideration will be given to applicants with availability on the weekends or some evenings. Other duties include planning tutor training sessions, collecting data relevant for reports of tutoring, and evaluating the outcome assessment of tutoring.
Required Qualifications
An earned master’s degree in English or Writing is preferred with demonstrable excellence in writing, teaching, research, publication, and community service. The writing center specialist must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily; experience working with traditional and non-traditional college students and students with disabilities is preferred; experience teaching rhetoric and composition at the college level; experience coordinating or managing a writing or tutoring center; experience utilizing online tutoring systems and other online learning tools. A candidate with competence in a foreign language is ideal beyond the advanced degree in English.

The candidate is expected to work 40 hours per week, keep office hours, and demonstrate commitment to professional growth and development and academic tutoring at the undergraduate level. Responsibilities include reviewing and editing student papers, tutoring students in the discipline of writing; advising students in revising papers; fulfilling university or department committee assignments and community service assignments; and participating in all university, academic affairs, and departmental activities. Evidence of scholarly activity and publication is desirable.
