Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) is seeking a full-time Electro-Mechanical Technician II to work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide diagnostic fielding and development support in a national laboratory environment. The Stockpile Experimentation & Operations (SEO) organization is looking for a highly motivated Electro-Mechanical Technician II to collaborate in design, development, characterization, and fielding of diagnostics systems on physics experiments conducted at the Principal Underground Laboratory for Subcritical Experimentation (PULSE) Complex and other facilities located at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS). This Electro-Mechanical Technician II will report primarily to the NNSS and will be responsible for working within a team of engineers and technicians within Technologies and Operations (T&O) - Optical Mechanical Technologies to deliver resources, services, products, and capabilities reliably, professionally and timely manner to the Sub-Critical Experiments, and collaborating National Weapon Laboratories.
Key Responsibilities
Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4 (http://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?SID=14b1c770db022992d237769fbe9fc519&mc=true&node=se10.4.707_14&rgn=div8) , "Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites," will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain systems.
- Work as part of a team of engineers and technicians from the labs and the NNSS to install, test and operate a wide range of diagnostic systems located underground in support of experiments.
- Experience in the use of basic and powered hand tools, must have a working knowledge of a variety of laboratory instrumentation such as TDR's, multimeters and oscilloscopes.
- Assist in the preparation of specifications for structures, systems, and equipment.
- Perform technical research and gather data needed by engineers.
- As a member of fielding support, must be able to adapt to diverse and dynamic field environments.
- Assist with detailed review of drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness, and format suitability.
- Follow checklists for specific equipment-related tasks such as calibration, testing, and operation of equipment or tools needed for the position.
- Associate degree in field related to the position or High School diploma plus 2 years' progressive related experience.
- Experience with electrical components, circuitry, the building up and hand wiring of circuit boards, soldering, AC/DC electronics, basic hand tools, electronic test and measurement equipment, and basic electronic troubleshooting.
- Experience working in a team environment that includes scientists, engineers, technicians, and designers.
- Experience using standard office software products.
- Must be competent in basic electronic work and optical work including Fiber Optics.
- Ability to work underground is required.
- Ability to effectively deal with pressures of deadlines and multiple tasks.
- Ability to work well with others, as this position will regularly interface with team members, other teams and outside organizations.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, work independently, and work as part of a team.
- Ability to execute work in a disciplined manner to demonstrate compliance with laws, codes, orders, and MSTS policies and procedures.
- The primary work location will be in the forward areas at the Nevada National Security Site (forward areas are approximately 90 miles from North Las Vegas) with some work occasionally performed at the Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada. The PULSE facility is located in the forward areas of the NNSS.
- Work schedule for this position will be 4/10's, Monday - Thursday (subject to change).
- Frequent travel to the NNSS forward areas will be required (approximately 30 miles beyond the Mercury gate).
- Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
- Must possess a valid driver's license.
