JOB SUMMARY:
The Ski & Snowboard Technician is responsible for the repair, maintenance, and setup of ski and snowboard equipment for customers and rental guests. This position ensures all work meets manufacturer standards and that guests receive properly tuned and safe equipment. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, detail-oriented, and knowledgeable about ski and snowboard gear. This role directly supports guest safety and experience by delivering high-quality, timely repairs and adjustments in accordance with Mission Ridge standards.
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES/TASKS:
- Equipment Adjustment: Adjust ski and snowboard equipment in accordance with manufacturer specifications and industry safety standards.
- Rental Equipment Maintenance: Clean, adjust, and issue rental gear to guests efficiently and accurately.
- Ski Tuning: Wax and edge skis using tuning machines and hand tools for optimal performance.
- Base Repair: Perform base repairs using P-tex and other appropriate materials.
- Guest Service: Ensure the guest experience aligns with Mission Ridge's service standards.
- Additional Duties: Assist with other tasks as assigned by supervisors or as operational needs require, including but not limited to: Rental Tech, Rental Cashier
SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Reading and Comprehension: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and maintenance manuals.
- Written Communication: Capable of writing basic reports and correspondence as needed.
- Mathematical Proficiency: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; compute rates, ratios, and percentages.
- Diagnostic and Repair Skills: Ability to assess and repair ski/snowboard equipment to ensure guest safety and satisfaction.
- Tool Proficiency: Skilled in using tuning equipment such as wax irons, edge machines, hand files, basic hand tools, basic power tools and P-tex tools; familiarity with edge replacement techniques.
- Wax Knowledge: Understanding of different wax types and their application based on snow conditions and temperatures.
- Binding Calibration: Knowledge of Vermont calibrator systems for setting ski bindings accurately and safely.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
A high school diploma or GED is preferred. One to three months of related experience or training is preferred, though equivalent combinations of education and hands-on experience will be considered. Employees must obtain current ski binding certifications; training and certification will be provided by the employer.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The role requires standing for long periods, bending, kneeling, and handling tools and equipment throughout the shift. Technicians must be able to lift and carry equipment up to 50 lbs. and demonstrate fine motor skills for precise tuning and repairs. The job requires focus, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a task-oriented environment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position is performed primarily indoors in a workshop setting, which may include exposure to noise from machinery and odors from waxes or solvents. The pace can be fast, particularly during weekends and holidays. Employees work closely with team members and guests and must maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
