Job Summary
We’re seeking a Regional Sales Manager with a strong background in technical sales and a passion for the water and wastewater industry. In this role, you’ll drive growth by partnering with independent sales reps and supporting customers with advanced SCADA solutions. You’ll leverage your expertise in automation, instrumentation, and consultative selling to build lasting relationships and deliver value. The ideal candidate is a skilled communicator, comfortable presenting and training both virtually and in-person, and thrives in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. Experience with SCADA systems, PLCs, RTUs, and flow measurement devices is highly preferred.
Candidates will ideally be located in Virginia or the Mid Atlantic region.
Key Responsibilities
- Sales channel management (target sales, current sales, promotion activity, digital marketing, training).
- Manage independent sales reps (reps) within the defined region and may directly manage some salespeople.
- Perform product demonstrations and training presentations to customers both virtually and in-person.
- Provide direction and guidance to inside sales and customer service staff concerning specific customer issues.
- Work cooperatively and constructively with our independent sales reps to meet annual sales goals and ensure customer satisfaction.
- RSMs are water/wastewater application experts. They maintain technical proficiency with all Mission products, the water/wastewater applications where they are used, and new products/applications as they are added/identified.
- Develop and maintain relationships at all production locations to help manage orders and logistics to meet the needs of our customers and reps.
- Work with Reps to develop relationships with consulting engineering firms resulting in specifications for Mission products (where we are the basis of design).
- Work with Reps to develop relationships with current and prospective customers resulting in Mission becoming their preferred brand of flow and energy measurement products.
- Support regional trade shows within assigned territory and factory training events as required.
- Provide direct support for high-profile projects and technical service issues as required.
- Maintain up-to-date reporting of sales activities and tracks/reports on large, long-term projects.
- Share feedback from customer visits, tradeshows, and other market intelligence with the team and management regarding industry trends and customer insights and requirements to inform strategy, product development, and sales tactics.
- Capture the voice-of-customer to influence and help drive the product roadmap.
- Stay current on competitors’ offerings and contributes to a competitive analysis by-product.
- Provide meaningful input on the overall company sales strategy, product development, and marketing.
- Perform any other duties or responsibilities as assigned.
- Travel requirements vary by region and time of year; 30-55% overnight travel is required (minimum 7-8 days per month in the field, selling).
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred in a related field: electrical or mechanical engineering, computer science, marketing, etc.
- 7-10 years prior experience in an outside sales management role in a technical, consultative selling environment.
- Experience in Water/Wastewater is a big plus but not required
- Valid Driver’s License required.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong presentation and training skills.
- Have working knowledge of upstream oil and gas processes and general instrumentation.
- Familiarity with the commissioning of automation equipment.
- Experience with analog signals, Modbus communications, digital I/O, and HART communications.
- Familiarity with commissioning instruments like programmable logic controllers (PLCs), remote terminal units (RTUs), radar, and flow devices, highly preferred.
- Intermediate skillset with Microsoft 365 (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, etc.)
- Intermediate knowledge and experience using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Customers Relationship Management (CRM) platforms such as Epicor and Salesforce.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently to achieve goals.
Working Conditions
- Physical Demands: Able to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time. Able to lift and carry up to 20lbs, bend, reach, squat.
- Visual Demands: Must be able to look at a computer monitor for extended periods.
- Manufacturing Environment: Must be able to work in a manufacturing company, which may involve exposure to machinery, noise, and other industrial conditions.
