Position: Medical Assistant - Referrals Department
Location: San Fernando Valley
Status: Full-Time (40hrs/wk)
Schedule: Monday - Friday 8a-5p, will be scheduled Saturday 7:30a- 4:00
Bilingual: English/Spanish required
*willing/able to assist in coverage at other clinic locations, as deemed necessary by immediate supervisor.
A qualified, experienced medical assistant is needed for a community health clinic located in the San Fernando Valley area to assist with the referrals department and float for providers as needed. Mission City Community Network, Inc. (MCCN) is looking for a professional, outgoing, and friendly team member with ability to multi-task. Must be reliable, hardworking, and able to work independently.
Referrals Dept Duties:
- Processing Referrals: Handle physician referrals for patients, ensuring all necessary documentation is complete and accurate. This includes verifying insurance coverage and obtaining pre-authorizations when required.
- Scheduling Appointments: Coordinate and schedule patient appointments with specialists or for diagnostic procedures, ensuring that patients are informed of their appointment details.
- Communication: Act as a liaison between patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies. Respond to inquiries regarding referrals and provide necessary information to patients and providers.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of referrals, including patient demographics and insurance information. Create and manage logs to track referral statuses and follow-ups.
- Patient Advocacy: Assist patients in navigating the healthcare system, addressing any issues related to their referrals, and ensuring they receive the necessary care.
Floating Duties:
- Clinical Tasks: Vital signs, venipuncture, injections, administering vaccines, EKGs, vaccine administration, specimen collection, and assisting with exams and procedures.
- Front Office Support: Appointment scheduling, insurance verification, patient check-in/out, and basic intake screening.
- General Assistance: Retinal screenings, preparing and maintaining treatment areas.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills
- Must have experience in drawing blood and administering vaccines
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) , required.
- High School Diploma/GED from a WASC accredited School.
- Medical Assistant Diploma from an accredited school, required
- California Certified Medical Assistant (CCMA), preferred
- Must maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Ability to pass Basic Clerical Skills Test and Medical Assistant Competency Test.
- 6 months Referrals experience preferred
- Must have current driver license, insurance and own reliable transportation (*required)
- Willing to assist in coverage at other SB/LA, SGV Clinics, as deemed necessary by organizational needs
