Grounds Maintenance
Minot State University – Facilities Department
The Facilities Department at MSU is responsible for maintaining, preparing, and supporting the university’s physical environment and infrastructure to ensure it is safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing for students, staff, and visitors.
- Groundskeeping & Landscaping
- Plant, seed, fertilize, and maintain turf for athletic fields and campus grounds
- Operate irrigation systems and monitor moisture levels
- Prune trees and bushes; remove dead or damaged vegetation
- Apply herbicides and insecticides following safety protocols
- Perform aeration to improve soil health
- Plant and maintain flower beds, including seasonal cleanup
- Snow & Ice Removal
- Clear snow and ice from entrances, sidewalks, stairs, and walkways
- Apply approved de-icing materials
- Operate snow removal equipment including shovels, snow blowers, and tractors
- Monitor conditions during snow events and prioritize critical access points
- Wear appropriate PPE and follow safety procedures
- Facilities Maintenance & Repairs
- Perform minor pavement repairs including crack sealing, pothole patching, and joint repair
- Conduct surface patching, edge repairs, and drainage corrections
- Repaint pavement markings as needed
- Remove debris following repairs
- Maintain and service groundskeeping and snow removal equipment
- Operational & Event Support
- Assist with moving, storing, and disposing of equipment and furniture
- Set up and take down tables, chairs, stages, and equipment for university events
- Support campus departments with special projects as needed
- Experience in groundskeeping and landscaping (planting, watering, pruning, lawn care)
- Ability to operate equipment such as lawn tractors, riding scrubbers, buffers, paint sprayers, and snow removal machinery
- Basic repair and maintenance skills for grounds and pavement surfaces
- Knowledge of chemical safety and compliance standards
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in varying weather conditions
- Work Environment & Physical Demands
This position requires regular lifting, bending, standing, walking, and operating equipment outdoors in all seasons, including winter snow events and summer heat.
