- Work with a variety of grades and age groups (E12).
- Develop leadership and management skills.
- Develop public relations and customer service skills.
- Gain experience working in a collaborative environment.
- Apply coursework and theory in a large, fast-paced, and comprehensive recreation department.
- Participate in program management, including program development, scheduling, budgeting, marketing, registration, facilities management, and staffing.
- Assist in supervising and providing guidance for participants in seasonal youth programs and special events.
- Participate in planning, preparation, and leading age-appropriate activities and staff trainings.
- Establish positive and friendly relationships with participants and families.
- Assist in the supervision and training of program staff.
- Maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
- Participate in a mock interview at the conclusion of the internship.
- Pursuing a B.A. or B.S. in recreation, youth development, sports management, leisure studies, community education, or a related field at an accredited college or university (juniors and seniors preferred).
- Successful experience in youth recreation and a passion for working with youth.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and customer service skills; ability to relate well to both children and adults and thrive in a team setting.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work with minimal supervision.
- Evidence of ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
- Proven record of punctuality and responsibility.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
- Must have a reliable form of transportation.
- Current certification in CPR and First Aid (or willingness to become certified upon hire; training provided).
