The Minnesota Military & Veterans Museum seeks to strengthen public understanding of how armed conflicts and military institutions have shaped our state and national experience. We do this by documenting, preserving, and explaining military history as it was lived by the people of Minnesota. We also function as a major repository in Minnesota for historical artifacts and records of a military nature.
Role Description
This is an unpaid volunteer opportunity at the Minnesota Military & Veterans Museum. Candidates can choose from a variety of tasks in our Library, Archive, and/or Museum. There is a wide variety of projects for every skill and experience level. We are located on Camp Ripley, MN, and the work can be on-site and/or remote. There are no minimum or maximum hours per week.
Examples of remote work include transcribing veteran rosters, searching for periodical archives, and transcribing donor form information. On-site work includes data entry for library books, describing archival photos, transcribing folder names, organizing periodicals, etc.
An archivist intern would shadow the archivist on daily tasks, including inventory, housekeeping, data entry, processing donations, and research.
Helpful Qualifications
- Interest in history and the military
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Attention to detail and organizational skills
- Previous experience in a museum, archive, or library
- MS Word, MS Excel, and Google Docs and Sheets
