Public Health Educator - Health and Human Services of Faribault & Martin Counties

Health and Human Services of Faribault & Martin Counties is hiring a full time (40 hours a week) Public Health Educator.  

This position will function as a Family Resource Specialist/Family Support Specialist providing strength-based services following Healthy Families America best practice standard guidelines to assigned caseload. The position will effectively deliver evidence-based parenting education and support to high-risk families by building trusting relationships, assessing needs, and providing tailored coaching and referrals. Demonstrate strong documentation, collaboration, and follow-through to improve family stability, child well-being, and program outcomes. Position will also effectively deliver Bridges Out of Poverty training to community partners and facilitate Getting By in a Just Getting’ By World workshops for clients, using engaging, culturally responsive methods.

Minnesota Merit System Examples of Duties 
• Promotes establishment of effective health education programs in the community through contacts with school administrators, voluntary health agencies, community groups, professional associations and other health and human service providers.
• Prepares educational materials for incorporation into school programs.
• Advises school faculties on new and effective school Health Education methods.
• Involves parent-teacher associations and other organizations interested in health education in community health education activities.
• Conducts courses and assists in the training of staff and others in health education techniques.
• Works with voluntary agencies, agricultural extension agents and other health information providers to explain health information to the general public.
• Participates in the preparation, selection, evaluation and distribution of health education materials.
• Assists with the organization of conferences and meetings, and other community based activities to accomplish community health education objectives.Minnesota Merit System Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university with a major in public health education, community health education or a closely related field;

OR

Bachelor's degree and two (2) years of experience in at least three (3) of the following areas:

1. writing, designing and producing public health informational materials including fact sheets, reports, articles and pamphlets;

2. researching, designing and writing public health training manuals and other training materials;

3. organizing and presenting workshops or recruiting, organizing and coordinating the training of community groups;

4. researching, writing, producing and distributing newsletters;

5. designing and maintaining a clearinghouse of public health education materials.

Faribault and Martin Counties Preferred Qualifications
Bilingual (English/Spanish) highly valued.
