The Eighth Judicial District invites current qualified Internal Eighth Judicial District staff to apply for one vacant Court Operations Specialist position. This is an internal promotional opportunity within the Criminal/Delinquency area. The primary work location will be determined based on the selected candidate’s current location.

The primary purposes of this Court Operations Specialist position will be to provide peer-to-peer training, be staff’s go-to person for processing questions, generate and review reports, perform data quality checks, monitor data quality sites and perform advanced court operations work. Criminal and Juvenile Delinquency processing is centralized by assignment area within the Eighth District (not district-wide centralization). The Criminal/Juvenile Delinquency Court Operations Specialist will serve the entire Eighth District.

This position is in the Minnesota Judicial Branch Court Operations Specialist job classification and is an unrepresented position in the Eighth Judicial District. The person hired into this position will be working from their current work location in the Eighth Judicial District and will continue with their current supervisor. The normal hours of work are Monday-Friday, 8:00AM-4:30PM.

Duties for this position include, but are not limited to:

This position will spend a majority of their time performing advanced court operations work with limited supervision, administering peer-to-peer training, reviewing reports, providing report analysis, and serving as a subject matter expert responding to processing questions from peers.

Generate and analyze reports (monitor CAPS compliance significant entry points, review reports for trends or training needs, etc.). Record data as appropriate regarding compliance.

Serve as district representative on state Process Advisory Workgroups or other project teams, serve as CAPs tester for Criminal or Juvenile Delinquency, Petty Offense, or Traffic.

Maintain knowledge of CAPs and share new or modified CAPS with staff.

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Two (2) years of experience as a Court Operations Associate or equivalent experience.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Considerable knowledge of appropriate procedures for processing a variety of legal documents and for proper record imaging, maintenance, and retention.

Considerable knowledge of court procedures and policies, laws, legal terminology and legal factors pertaining to the court.

Knowledge of the organization, operation, function, and jurisdiction of the court.

Knowledge of electronic case management system and related applications.

Knowledge of basic arithmetic.

Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.

Knowledge of customer service practices.

Skill in the operation of a personal computer, including electronic case management system and related applications and equipment.

Ability to read and interpret legal documents of varying types and complexity and apply knowledge of specific laws, statutes, rules, policies, and procedures related to the area of assignment.

Ability to maintain an accurate record filing system.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters and files appropriately and in compliance with all applicable court rules, policies, and statutes.

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced environment.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others within and outside of the Judicial Branch.

Current judicial branch employees must have satisfactory performance in all competencies in their most recent performance evaluation and no discipline above an oral reprimand in the preceding 6 months.

Work is performed primarily in an office-setting, courtroom or at a public counter.
