Position Summary
The Camp Butwin Assistant Director is a seasonal leadership position supervised by the Camp Director. This is a supervisory position that oversees the day-to-day operation of camp’s programming, ensuring that activity specialists have lesson plans and materials ready for each group, planning themed events for all-camp programming, and ensuring Jewish Culture and Butwin’s traditions are promoted, upheld, and are exciting and engaging for all campers. Assistant Directors are role models for staff and must lead by example.

- Provide overall summer leadership, direction, and management of Camp Butwin Specialists under the supervision of the Camp Butwin Director.
- Oversee directly or manage the leaders responsible for program quality.
- Lead training, supervising, and evaluating seasonal staff to ensure excellence in camper care and program delivery.
- Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with campers, parents, staff, and community partners.
- Ensure programs reflect Jewish values, foster personal growth, and build community in alignment with the JCC’s mission.
- Ensure camp is a safe, respectful, and fun environment for campers.
- Responsible for being conscious of and protecting the health, safety, and welfare of all campers in any area or programs at camp.
- As part of the camp seasonal leadership team, serve as a role model and leader in the camp community.
- Attends and contributes to pre-camp training sessions, regularly scheduled staff meetings and training sessions once camp is in session. Participates in the open house and any family events.
- Lead Friday program planning and execution day of each program.
- Help develop rainy day and hot day programs.
- Responsible for having your staff maintain activity area cleanliness, upkeep, and decor.
- Assist in planning together all Chugim (choice) and Friday Programs. This includes calling and scheduling potential specialists, organizing schedules, distributing staff and campers.
- Support and guide staff when campers are presenting challenging behaviors.
- Assist and complete other administrative tasks as requested by the Camp Director.
