Job Summary:
The Minnesota Department of Transportation does not sponsor applicants for work visas or Optional Practical Training Extensions for STEM Students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.
This position will assist in performing field survey work needed to assure that MnDOT’s program support and program delivery goals are met in a timely and safe manner; operate survey equipment, controllers & computers; perform computations necessary for field survey operations; take or prepare survey notes when requested by crew chief or supervisor; and perform all work activities in a safe manner for the MnDOT Metro District.
The purpose of this position is to serve as a member of a field survey crew performing location surveys. Perform both manual and technical work as required to accomplish assigned survey tasks.
Minimum Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to work outside, exposed to the weather (both hot & cold) on a daily basis. The employee will frequently drive a motor vehicle in off-road conditions which will involve sitting, head/neck flexion and rotation, operation of foot controls – manual and automatic transmissions, and hand dexterity for controls and steering. Frequently, the employee will walk up and down uneven grades and slopes. The employee may work in high volume traffic zones in day and night time conditions. The employee must frequently and continually rotate through various body positions (standing, twisting, bending, sitting, kneeling, crouching, stooping & squatting). The employee will operate machinery and equipment (using vision & hearing) under varying temperatures. The employee will frequently lift and carry in the moderate 40-50 pound range and infrequently lift up to 150 pounds with assistance. The employee must wear and use personal protective equipment to protect the head, eyes, hearing, respiration, visibility and feet from injury An individual with a disability may be qualified to perform the function if an accommodation would enable this person to perform the job in a different way, and the accommodation does not impose an undue hardship.

- A valid Class D Driver’s License.

- Experience using data loggers, GPS equipment, and/or GIS software to make maps.
- Background in GIS/GPS and a high degree of computer literacy.
