Assistant Traffic Engineer

This position is responsible for leading and coordinating traffic engineering work in the district. Duties include:

• Responding to a wide range of questions and concerns from the public and other stakeholders about traffic safety, congestion, and access issues.
• Leading or supporting traffic studies and data collection related to access management, road signs, pavement markings, and safety.
• Providing guidance and oversight on signing issues within the district.
• Managing the Safety Management System to identify crash-prone areas, recommend improvements, and help plan safety projects.
• Working with the Office of Freight and Commercial Vehicle Operations to develop rail-related projects and managing highway/rail crossing safety projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• A Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university or its equivalency as rated by NCEES/EAC.
• A passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
• Two years post-graduation civil engineering work

OR

• A Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university or it’s equivalency as rated by NCEES/EAC
• A passing score on the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam
• One (1) year of post-graduate civil engineering work.

OR

• Received a passing score on the Minnesota Principals & Practices of Civil Engineering (PE) Exam.
