What are the responsibilities and job description for the Billing Specialist position at Minnesota Autism Center?

Location: Remote- M-F work between 6am-6pm CST
Company: Minnesota Autism Center

Salary Range: $51,200 to $56,000 DOE


We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Billing Specialist to join our team. As a Billing Specialist, you will gain hands-on experience in the financial workings of billing, follow-up, and reimbursement for autism services.

This role is ideal for someone who is well-versed in medical billing, follow-up, denials, appeals, and has the ability to support all areas where needed.

We are ONLY considering people in Minnesota.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Revenue Cycle Management with day-to-day operations.
  • Verify insurance and Medical Assistance (MA) coverage prior to services being rendered.
  • Contact families regarding coverage.
  • Assist with client setup and profile maintenance.
  • Assist with Medicaid and Commercial Insurance billing.
  • Ensure accurate data as it relates to charge entry, posting receipts, and adjustments.
  • Respond to correspondence and denials from insurance companies.
  • Gather clinical records for insurance requests.
  • Complete miscellaneous assignments from the Revenue Cycle Manager and other management as needed.
  • Work collaboratively to support all areas of billing and reimbursement as necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality and always adhere to HIPAA regulations.

Qualifications:

  • Employee must pass all state and federally mandated criminal background checks.
  • Professional Billing- 1500 Claim Form Billing
  • Must possess a high school diploma.
  • Commercial Insurance Experience (BCBS, United Healthcare etc.)
  • Medicaid Billing
  • 5 years in medical billing, follow-up, denials, appeals, and can support all areas where needed.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel proficiency.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to addressing challenges.

Preferred:

  • CPB (Certified Professional Biller)
  • Bachelor’s in healthcare management or Business Management
  • Central Reach experience

About the Company:
MAC's services are center-based and in-home, and include speech and occupational therapy, assessment and diagnosis services, and individual and family therapy. At any given time, MAC serves approximately 370-400 clients throughout Minnesota at 18 centers located in Eagan, Hopkins, Fridley, Monticello, Bemidji, Forest Lake, Vadnais Heights, Woodbury, Duluth, Virginia, Mankato, Rochester, Red Wing, Austin, New Ulm, Hutchinson, Cambridge.
