The Minnehaha County Juvenile Detention Center invites you to apply for the Juvenile Services Manager position to develop, implement and coordinate alternative strategies that are used to promote the effective use of secure detention and detention alternatives for the safety and security of juveniles and the community. This position involves working with court processes for effective and expeditious placement as well as collecting and analyzing data, preparing reports, and making recommendations and presentations for the juvenile justice system stakeholders in Minnehaha County.
- SALARY: $37.51-$41.36/Hour

How You Will Make an Impact
- Gather, prepare and disseminate information about youth for court hearings.
- Interview and assess youth and work collaboratively with their family and other personnel to develop an appropriate placement plan throughout the court process.
- Attend court hearings and make recommendations for placement.
- Track and facilitate reviews of youths' cases in order to expedite the court process.
- Work extensively with the attorneys, probation, service providers, and judges.
- Collect, analyze and correlate detention screening data with detention alternative outcome data to promote the effective use of secure detention and detention alternatives.
- Review intakes for accuracy and content. Address concerns with appropriate staff.
- Prepare reports and make presentations to system stakeholders.
- Serve as County Juvenile Justice Services Coordinator; plan and coordinate regular meetings of the Juvenile Justice Collaborative, including the Steering/Executive Committee and all stakeholder workgroups, as necessary. Duties include agenda planning, pre-meeting data review and analysis, preparation of data and other materials to be shared and discussed at the meeting, assisting the Chair(s) with running the meeting (as necessary), and keeping minutes.
- Facilitate the development of the Collaborative’s work plan and encourage all members of the collaborative to hold each other accountable to the tasks and timelines set forth in the work plan.
- Participate in state JDAI meetings, JDAI training seminars; JDAI model site visits to other states; and the national JDAI conference.
What You Need to Succeed in this Role
Bachelor's degree in criminal justice related discipline and two years of experience working in the juvenile justice system or comparable combination of education and experience. Experience working effectively with juveniles and families who are of diverse backgrounds and cultures, high-risk to community safety, and who may exhibit symptoms of physical and mental disorders and substance abuse. Understanding of theories, methods, and techniques of social casework, counseling, child psychology, and development. Possession of a valid driver's license and must maintain a safe driving record with Minnehaha County. Competence with computer software systems. Must successfully complete pre-employment background process.
Ability to collaborate with multi-agency partners. Knowledge of the juvenile justice system including community-based programs. Ability to collect data, analyze data and develop and produce reports. Ability to de-escalate volatile situations and, when necessary, physically restrain youth for their safety and safety of others. Knowledge of and skill using technology and related software systems. Ability to build and maintain positive, collaborative relationships with colleagues, other agencies, and the public. Effective verbal and written communication. Present a professional appearance and communicate with others in a respectful and approachable way.
