Material Handler

SUMMARY:   Performs manual and clerical duties related to shipping, receiving, inspecting, storing, issuing and delivering a variety of materials, equipment and supplies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:  include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Receiving side:  Receives in raw materials, unpacks and verifies the correctness of shipments against supply slips and stock orders.  Notifies supervision of rejected, damaged, or shortage requiring further action.  Moves and positions material to workplace, storage area, or as designated.  
• Shipping Side:  Receives finished goods from Production lines, verifies the correctness of product against supply slips and stock orders.  Notifies supervision of rejected, damaged, or shortage requiring further action.  Prepares skids for shipment and loads outgoing goods.  
• Shipping/Receiving:  Loads outgoing trash into containers.  Keeps department clean and aisles free from materials, rubbish, parts, etc.  Assists in maintaining acceptable levels of safety and housekeeping within the plant.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, etc.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to do practical math; add, subtract, multiply and divide.  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving variables in standardized situations.   This position requires a forklift operator’s license. 

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.   Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software.

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is required to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The associates must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
